It is believed to have got its name from 'Guru Gaon', the 'village of the teacher' as Yudhisthir gave this land to Guru Dronacharya as was mentioned in Mahabharata, the epic. It was gifted as a price for teaching warfare and the use of arms to the five Pandavas when they were young.
Damdama Lake
Damdama Lake is one of the biggest natural lakes in Haryana, formed as a water fill in a depression in the Aravalli hills that give a striking backdrop to its placid waters. It is few kilometers south of Gurgaon and is off the Gurgaon-Alwar road. If you love boating you can enjoy boating in Damdama Lake by row boats, paddle boats, and motor boats. There are also a number of adventure activities that one can explore like rock climbing, trekking, etc.
Sohna Lake
Situatedamidst the Aravalli hills in Haryana. Sohna Lake is one of the most renowned tourist attractions in Gurgaon. It is a picturesque health-cum-holiday resort, well-known for the presence of its medicinal Sulphur spring. Sohna, in Hindi means Gold, and the lake got this name from a stream nearby whose sands are said to have littered with Gold.
Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary
Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary is a heaven for birdwatchers. The collected brackish water attracted a large variety of animals and aquatic plants that in turn attracted migratory as well as a variety of resident birds. The area is on the verge of the semi-arid zone around Rajasthan. Though of late, due to poor monsoons and depletion of groundwater, part of what used to be a vast sheet of water, has dried up into a grassy land, the lake has sufficient amount of water in the winters to attract large number of migratory birds.

Leisure Valley Park
Leisure Valley Park is spread in an area of about 25 acres. However, the major attraction is the mighty musical fountain that illuminates the place at night. The fountain is one of its kinds in the city. The place dazzles at night and presents a very picturesque view. Water gushes out of these fountains of different kinds to make a pattern. It is a beautiful sight to see water dancing to the tunes of latest numbers. The park is truly a breather. People in large numbers gather to have a splendid view.
