A great place to start is the 10,000 hectare Killarney National Park and the recommended way to get around is by 'jaunting car', more commonly known as a horse and cart. You may not cover all 10,000 hectares of land but a jaunting car tour is not to be missed as you take in the wonderful Irish scenery without a motor in sight. Overlooking the National Park is Macgillycuddy's Reeks mountain range, home to some of Ireland's tallest peaks. As the mountains descend, the Lakes of Killarney begin and both of these sights make for spectacular viewing at all times of year. After a day spent out in the wild, returning to the town to be fed and watered, with the emphasis on watering, will re-energise you for the next day.

Located off the coast of County Kerry is a small island named Skellig Michael which is home to one of Ireland's most prized UNESCO World Heritage sites. The ruins of a monastery dating back to the 7th Century still exist on this tiny and remote island and make the mind wonder about the life of those monks that lived there.
