Situated at the foot of the Andes, Mendoza is one of Argentina’s most beautiful cities, known for its tree lined boulevards, grand public squares and lush parks which are all linked by a web of irrigation ditches, or 'Acequias.’ These irrigation ditches give the entirety of arid Mendoza its water, including a number of scenic fountains that adorn the city’s public plazas. Take time to walk in the five squares, the civic centre, or the foundation area—and stroll among outdoor cafes, shops, and fountains, while taking in the colonial Spanish architecture.
Connoisseurs will share the city’s affection for wine, which is evident in everything from its largest festival—celebrating the grape harvest—to a museum dedicated to the history of wine production. Gourmands, too, will find epicurean delights galore in Mendoza. From local delicacies like tortitas raspadas or delicious barbeque, to innovative regional fare in the city’s finest restaurants—all of Mendoza’s cuisine is best served with the region’s wines.
Shopping in Mendoza can be quite an enchanting experience for visitors in search of the region’s specialty products, including handicrafts, chocolate, wine, hand brewed beer, leather, and sports goods. In addition to city many sidewalk boutiques and markets, the Mendoza Plaza Shopping and the Palmares Open Mall will satisfy your shopping needs.
For our visitors with an interest in adventure tours and extreme mountain sports, Mendoza offers a variety of opportunities to participate in these excursions.
Mendoza City is an ideal base for further exploring the region, with many fascinating sites and towns within easy reach, including the ruins of San Francisco Church, Maipú, El Challao, Villavicencio Thermal Resort, Cacheuta, Potrerillos and Vallecitos. The very well known "Ruta de los Vinos" (Route of the Wines) also deserves a special mention because tourists can visit ancient cellars and taste excellent yields which are product of carefully chosen grapes.
