Cockatoo is an incredible social and industrial heritage site with an unbeatable vista from inside Sydney Harbour. It is great that these permanent tents are available to hire. However, the very minimal staffing is problematic, and the fact that the two cafes shut to the public so early (right on 6 and categorical, churlish refusal to even sell ready made ice creams when the shutters were still up, just seems illogical and pointlessly inconvenient for the campers. Also there was a huge mob of 10-12 ish aged boys running riot in the campsite, shouting at the tops of their voices from our arrival at just before 6 and probably before to past 11, also throwing stones at nesting seagulls and masked lapwings, and running them down with their bikes, throwing stones at a big metal bin to make a horrible noise, playing with electric noise making ray gun things at 11 at night - and although the ranger was alerted to the murder of native wildlife, he did nothing about it, the boys were doing the same literally as he was walking off. My animal loving 9 yr old was very distressed by finding crushed baby birds. There were not even any signs about respecting other campers or being quiet after a certain time. SO that really spoiled the stay. However, it is a special place, the amentities are good and clean (although there should be more toilets for the amount of tents), and the ferry transport is easy and fun. (although it's annoying that the F3 ferry doesn't stop there after a bit past 4pm.

We had an amazing stay as the property was above expectations and we woke up to a beautiful sunrise on the harbour - better than in a high rise hotel where you can’t open the windows or are blocked by other buildings!! Be organised though and bring food to cook for dinner and breakfast but there’s a full kitchen and BBQ to use.

1. Catch the ferry over from Woolwich as there is plenty of free parking. 2. Scooters for kids are essential. 3. Marshmallows and marshmallow sticks essential. 4. Tents are very hot in summer- I would suggest spring or autumn to book. 5. Bring an extra pillow or two if you have booked a tent with a stretcher as the dip in the middle and can be very uncomfortable.

Great stay in a double tent for four of us, it was a nice treat for the children and an easy way to satisfy their desire to go camping! Ie. glamping! Tents were well equipped and bbq area had microwave, kettle, bbq, fridge. Lovely to take an adventure round the island & learn about the history.

Lack of information on the internet regarding basic tent accommodation, we carried camp chairs all the way there for the concert when we didn't need to as chairs were with the tent. Also future reference organisers need to allow people with accommodation on the island to be able to exit the concert instead of being closed in for an hour or more with people held in who were being ferried off that was just ridiculous, our whole reason for staying was to not have to do this, and we were one of many in the ssme situation!!! We could not get through and it was so jammed packed no one would let you through!!! Also we wanted to go into the concert for a while then go and explore the island grab jackets and go back in but we couldn't do that either so we froze!
