Awesome location , beautiful island 🌴, however our room was not clean , kitchen benches and table had scum on them the toilet was not not clean or the fridge , it had dirt on the window sills which was right above our heads In the room , my daughters bed had a giant ants 🐜 nest above her bed , and the aircon had dust clumps flying out of it when I turned it on . I personally had to scrub everything the bathroom the kitchen and clean out the filters of the aircon before we could touch anything. Plus we got the early ferry over to the island and stood with our bags for half the day waiting while apparent cleaning staff were cleaning out cabin only to watch 3 of them stuff around at the cabin and do nothing but change the sheets and take out the bin. Very disappointed with this.

Thank you Renee for your holiday review and again I apologise that we have not replied sooner. During the exceptionally busy Christmas holiday period, housekeeping are under enormous pressure to get guests into their rooms as soon as they can. Firstly I do want to apologise that the room was not clean to your satisfaction. This is certainly not our intention or our usual standard of service. Our official check in time is 2pm but we do our best to get you in earlier as everyone prefers. I understand that guests do catch the early bird ferry over as it is more economical and gives you more time on the island. We do ask guests not to wait at their rooms but to leave their luggage in the baggage shed, and once the accommodation is clean and ready we let you know. We usually suggest guests either have refreshments in the bistro, walk around the beaches or go for a swim with the family while you are waiting. It it very hard for the housekeepers to be put under pressure with guests standing around the cabin waiting for them. I do not say this to be harsh on our guests. Housekeeping may have cleaned more of the room before you arrived and maybe were doing the final touches whilst you were waiting. Once again Renee I sincerely apologise that the room was not clean for your family. This was one of the reasons that we gave you a discount on departure. We definitely welcome the opportunity to have your family back again on the island and hope that you would see improvements. Thank you again Renee. Kind regards

Beautiful location and the ferry trips were great, but unfortunately the cleanliness of our room and the restaurant meals were terrible whilst being very expensive.

Thank you Sam for taking the time to review your holiday. I can't apologise enough that your room wasn't clean. I know it was a long weekend and very busy but the housekeeping team usually do a good job keeping the rooms clean and tidy. With the "restaurant" (our bistro) meals we do ask that guests understand that on an island meals are going to be more expensive than the mainland in we ask guests that if you are unhappy with your meals that you speak with the Head Chef/kitchen staff straight away. The Manager would expect your meals to be replaced if they were not to the standard that you expect. We have a team of chefs in the kitchen, and I know it was a busy weekend, but the standard should not be effected. I apologise again that your meals were not to your liking. We always welcome feedback and look forward to inviting you again in the future as we aim to always improve the quality of accommodation and bistro service. Kind regards

Great spot next to beach. All beaches are lovely. Our room was very basic, but did the job. Hideaway needs more activities though. This is not s place you would want to stay more than one or two nights, otherwise you would get bored. Basically only one place to eat and have a beer.

Thank Rusty for taking the time to review your holiday. I am very pleased you found the beaches lovely. We have a range of accommodation with our beachfront and sea view island cabins the premium accommodation styles. But overall we are a basic 3 star. We do try to provide some live music, Friday nights, Sunday lunch and sometimes Sunday. I am aware though that there are not any night time activities during the week days. This is something that we should definitely be looking into and need to discuss with guests about what they would like us to do. Maybe trivia nights, occassionally we have karaoke or movie nights?? Thanks Rusty.

Thank you for taking the time to review Great Keppel Island. The Rainbow hut did sell cigarettes for many years but have recently stopped and yes eventually some one else will have to take up that opportunity. We do share with our guests the meal times at check in but understand sometimes you are out on the beach until later. Weekends we run the bistro for much longer hours and if our chefs are in the kitchen doing prep they will always make up some meal for you. I hope you didn't go hungry. Your review is valuable to us and hopefully next time your visit there will be opportunities to purchase cigarettes.

Good Location but few activities

Pros: The front desk was helpful and friendly and the food was good quality although expensive.
Cons: The hotel needs to offer more activities. They could screen movies in the evening. Staff need to be better trained.
Location: Snorkeling was quite good with lots of fish and clams. Also some beautiful beaches. Very limited activities such as fishing, mini golf, jetski hire.
The location is an easy ferry ride from Yapoon. We planned to stay 3 nights but only stayed one night. Hotel website showed a swimming pool adjacent to the hotel. In reality the pool doesn't exist and was the victim of cyclone damage. Other activities were lacking staff support. For example I enquired about fishing at the activities center and was told that the only person who could answer my questions was not there and I would have to come back later. On check in we were not issued with a map of the island although it is necessary for safety when bush walking on the island. The website promotes bird watching stating numerous species. I walked to Long beach and Monkey beach and sighted only 2 bird species during a 2 hour walk. Long Beach is a beautiful stretch of beach but there was no sign of any safety equipment such as a life buoy. Similar at Monkey Beach which offers coral reef snorkeling. There were no staff at either beach and no safety or first aid equipment.

Hi John, Thank you for taking the time to review our property. We're pleased you enjoyed the food, we do try our utmost to keep prices inline with mainland prices, despite not having access to mainland power or water. We appreciate your suggestion of evening movies but we do actually advertise as a tech-free experience and receive great feedback from guests that enjoy "logging out" for their holiday. We're also surprised that you didn't find the activities to suffice, as lots of guests thoroughly enjoy the abundance of water activities. Our property has never had a pool and nor does our website show one, perhaps this was another location? With 17 beaches, Great Keppel Island does not advertise patrolled beaches and as our lease is only a small portion of the island, the areas you visited are uninhabited. We do offer maps for sale in reception as they have a copy-write on them. Kind Regards, Eloise

Garden room

Fortunately I was there to enjoy the beauty of GKI as for $198 my room was a donga in the staff quarters & power was turned off at sundown. All amenities either needed cleaning or fixing. Very disappointed.

Hi Kaz, We're disappointed you didn't enjoy your accommodation. Those rooms were all newly built this year, they're not within a staff area but we have continued clean up since. The power is not deliberately turned off at any point, we did have a few days of problems with our generator due to the air-conditioning units drawing too much power. It has since been fixed. We hope you'll return and see noticeable improvements. Kind Regards,

lovely island, friendly staff (esp reception)

Pros: setting and atmosphere
Cons: area for party goers and area for people that want peace and quiet
Room run down but clean. Vegetarians are very limited (thank god I took a case full of food) esp on friday nights with the massive meat cookup night the cook was not even prepared to make a bowl of chips ( all day chips in information not at all available on a friday all day! were sent to pizza place nearby... closed too). Luckily there is a fully equipped camp kitchen and we made our own dinner at the end. Weekends people come over to party, we came to rest. Instead of sitting at the beach to party they sat in front of their room oblivious that we were trying to sleep next door! Reception tried to help but were palmed off at the end. obviously they need the money. The gentleman at the beach hut hiring out the kayaks etc was wonderful! Absolutely stunning island. Keppel connection ferry transfer was great too. Would we go again? no not to hideaway maybe another accomodation, quieter one though.

Hi there, Thank you for the time to review our property. Since your stay, our chef has actually updated both the breakfast and dinner menu to cater better to vegetarian and vegan guests. We're pleased you enjoyed the Konnection ferry & activities and hope to welcome you back outside the peak-period to enjoy the tranquility. Kind regards,
