We arrived to find construction which we were not made aware of and had to phone to be given access to the building with normal business hours. Upon walking inside was an awful stench (like a sewerage type smell) which permeated the ground floor. Our check in was fine however once we were inside our room it was like a sauna, it was sweltering hot. The curtains were opened wide (to the construction below) and the air conditioning was off despite booking a week in advance! When we turned on the ancient air conditioning it was blowing hot air, and the labelling was so worn we could not determine what was hot or cold. We eventually set the temperature to 6°C and left the room to get in the pool as we could not bear to stay in the room despite driving all day. Our booking specified we were travelling with a child and I am astounded that the rooms are not prepared at ALL for guests especially given the height of summer and the fact the room was receiving direct sunlight all afternoon. Our room remained hot all night although with the temperature still set to 6°C it did cool down somewhat but not enough to be comfortable. The only comfortable thing was the bed however for a chain that claims to be looking after its customers this was a massive fail. I would never recommend staying there to anyone. We were far more comfortable in the motel we stayed in the following evening who had prepared our room and even turned on the air conditioning prior to our arrival. Shame on you Rydges!

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback in regards to your recent stay. Currently we do not turn on aircons prior to guests arrivals as we are an environmentally friendly property. Our back entrance door is normally open between the hours of 6am to 9pm but due to the Christmas break and low staff levels in the best interest of our guests we made a decision for security to lock the door. The hotel is currently undertaking a major refurbishment which will include all new aircons in guest rooms, walk in showers and furnishings in guest room. Very exciting times ahead for the property.
