The location next to the Marina was superb. The only down side was housekeeping. Inconsistent with something different missing each day.

We stayed at the hotel when it was first built and it was outstanding - it is definitely a bit tired and ordinary now but still in a great location. The room was bland as was the reception foyer

The room was great and spacious and came with a great view of the Cairns marina. However, the overall experience was nothing special. The staff was efficient, but definitely not the friendliest. Me and my partner were there for a holiday but it felt more like staying at a business hotel rather than a hotel catering to holidaymakers. The breakfast buffet was very disappointing and the staff at the restaurant were also rather cold and unwelcoming. All in all, wasn't worth the price that we paid. Our experience at the Hilton in Cairns was far better and will definitely be staying there next time.

The hotel amanitas and service is well below what you would expect at Shangri-La. So if you can find a good deal and lower your expectation a little then its a great place to stay. The location is super convenient for tours out to the reef and other Islands, the main dining strip is just a short walk the lagoon is right there (not on the property).
