Unique farmstay accommodation. You can feed farm animals, many bushwalking trails, pottery lessons, lovely cafe serving fresh wood fired pizza and home made gelato among other menu items. The staff are warm and friendly. It is a farm so expect some dust and flies, making it an authentic experience. Maria and her family have created a little oasis in The Pilliga.

Really enjoyed our stay. The peace and quiet. The night sky. No mosquitos. Enjoyed the pottery demonstration and cafe. There are nice walks to go on . The only negative was that there was no hot water, so a cold shower.

Lovely family environment, but logistics very difficult if you have babies needing bottles etc. We stayed in the farmhouse which was cute, but bring all your own cups/bowls/cutlery and be prepared to queue to shower and brush your teeth!

Thank you for your feedback. We are glad you enjoyed the family environment and buildings. The Farmhouse has a cupboard with cups/bowls/cutlery/glasses as well as tea and coffee facilities and a microwave and fridge. We wish you would have asked so we could have made your stay more enjoyable. We will endeavour to put up a sign so it isn't missed again. Very sorry for the inconvenience.

We arrived after a long and arduous trip, Maria was there to welcome us, she knew the purpose of our stay was to celebrate my mums 80th, lots of focus on ensuring everything was as it should be. I thought Maria was the most authentic business person I have come across during many decades of all sorts of travel. Imagine how blown away I was to hear Maria's own mum had very recently passed yet her focus was on ours and other guests experience . By the way the whole stay was wonderful but really stood out was a sense of ethics which permeated through all the staff, I loved seeing kids playing and laughing outside with very happy hounds as well. This has prompted my first feedback for anything.....ever!!!

City dweller converted after amazing farmstay

Pros: The setting and the people made it a perfect stay.
Location: Coonabarabran was a first time visit and there was so much to see and do that it takes far more than a day so a return trip is needed.
After a year of travelling around regional and rural NSW staying in motels the Barkala Farmstay was a welcome and needed change. Staying one night was my only regret. The staff as so professional and kind and very good at what they do. There is a pride in the customer service so rarely seen in short term stays. The room was so comfortable. The food excellent. The pottery beautiful enough to purchase and take home as a remembrance of a lovely stay.

Beautiful, but noisy in the farmhouse.

Pros: Beautiful grounds.
A great location, beautiful surrounds, staff were friendly, but the farmhouse was noisy at night. The walls are thin so every person in the building can be heard and there was a water tank (or water pipes?) in our room that kept running intermittently all night. I'm sure the other accommodation options are fine, but I wouldn't recommend the farmhouse.

Thank you for your feedback. We are disappointed to hear that you didn't entirely enjoy your stay. You are right, our other accommodations (which are not shared and made of hardy mud brick) offer a much quieter stay. It would be lovely to welcome you in one of them if you are in the area again.

Something different and nice

Kids enjoyed absolutely everything was great only thing missing was air conditioning, it is a bid of Drive on dirt to get to the place but it was worth it

Lovely country location, Great friendly staff.

Pros: Unique environment and beautiful surrounds.
Location: Plenty to do on site.
What an amazing setup. This property is a testament to the hard work and vision of its creators. Cannot recommend it highly enough and hugely dog friendly.

Rustic Hippie Hideaway.

Pros: Food Owner was helpful
Cons: Too much like a rustic hippy settlement.
Location: Consisted of a farm with related activities. Distance from town a disadvantage, Out of phone range, mobile range.
We were horrified by the unsealed road in to the Farmstay. We were driving a new car and found the road so rough that I believed it required a 4 wheel drive. I feel we should have been informed of the unsealed road. We were booked for 2 nights but stayed only one night due to the access difficulties and the heavy rain which caused a cancellation of the Races in Binnaway. The food at both dinner and breakfast was of high quality and very enjoyable.
