We have stayed several times before and while I realize it’s a budget option I feel it’s becoming even more so. Linen bags in the hallways, a sheet thumbtacked to our window and the smallest bathroom I’ve ever been in.

We stayed for the weekend with our baby in a room with an ensuite. It was exactly what you would expect from a hotel above a pub. Great value, but a little loud on Saturday night from drunk patrons. The bathroom seemed recently refurbished and was spotless but our room looked like someone had punched a few holes in the plaster. It was sub-zero temperatures outside, but the ducted heating and electric blankets were enough to keep us warm. The staff were incredibly helpful, they let us store a cake in the restaurant fridge and gave us some dish soap to wash our baby bottles as we forgot to pack some and the grocery store was closed. The restaurant food was good, a little slow in the service as it was crowded at dinner. There were good beers on tap and the fire was going in the restaurant which was cosy. The huge lounge room was nice to sit in, and I'm pretty sure a fire would have been lit in there if we had bothered to ask.

Lovely history and atmosphere. As staying in old pubs can be a difficult experience, this one stands out as far superior. Nicely restored and comfortable. I could have done with a bedside lamp, though, but the ensuite was clean and fresh. And good value. Down on the street there are amazing places to eat, and nearby, stunning scenery. A good stopping point if you are leaving Sydney late and need a stopover before heading west.

The restaurant was hit & miss - either delicious (steaks) or disgusting (Mexican burger) & no desserts were available either. The pigeons in the roof were really noisy & kept me awake. Friendly staff.
