A true oasis in the valley, the Tuggeranong Homestead provides a glimpse into early Australian life. The complex features many outbuildings with expansive grounds and gardens to explore. It's also the site where Dr C. E. W. Bean and war history writers composed the first volumes of the official history of World War I. Don't miss the Tuggeranong Markets, hosted in the homestead on the first Sunday of every month. Here, explore the many stalls, all selling amazing local crafts and produce.
Take your kids to burn off some energy at Point Hut Park, with flying foxes and a challenging adventure playground they can clamber around to their hearts content, or hone their basketball skills in one of the courts. It's a great spot for a picnic lunch, overlooking neat landscapes and ponds. For another perfect family spot, visit Murrumbidgee River Corridor, one of the best loved places to go in Canberra. It offers fantastic swimming, scenic walks, fishing and cycling tracks, or simply find a peaceful spot and make use of the facilities to fire up the grill for a great lunch.
Two of the biggest shopping centres are in Tuggeranong: Woden Westfield and the Tuggeranong Hyperdome. Both feature many specialty stores, as well as big department stores for anything you need to pick up. But If nature is more your thing, take one of the many bushwalks in the region. The track from Kambah Pool to Pine Island runs for seven kilometres, is easily accessible and allows you to stop in at the magnificent Red Rocks Gorge.
Tuggeranong really has something for everyone, and is so close to Canberra it's super easy to get here. Book your Tuggeranong accommodation and come visit on your next holiday to the ACT!
