Location! Yes, it's right on the lava cliffs overlooking the ocean! And the sunrise greets you every morning.
Lots of space inside the house and it has a large deck the length of the house that overlooks the ocean!
Lots of windows that keep the house well ventilated.
Lots of electronics that provide wifi, a landline telephone an internet phone, a wifi tv, and even electronic door locks and remotes for the ceiling fans. The manager is very helpful if you have questions about operating things
Well stocked kitchen; dishes, pots, etc. Bathroom is spacious as well with a good tub shower combination.
But,
If you want to sightsee around, most everything is up around the Hilo area (35 to 45 minutes away). There are some things to see locally, but beaches have rough water and the road is a charming, one lane in places.
Groceries are outrageously priced at the nearest store, stock up before arriving.
Water is rain catch storage water, may be safe to drink but not guaranteed. It is treated (UV) and it seems as though most people trust it. We showered and washed dishes with it, but brought bottled water to drink.
The house is a little rough around the edges, the salt water probably has worn it down both outside and inside.
Bottom line:
We grew to really like and enjoy the house. It has some interesting decor and nuances that give it some flavor. We found the secret, rough, roped trail to the cliffs about a block away (don't! get anywhere close to the cliff edge). Our neighbors were friendly, but respectful of our privacy. We spent a week and felt refreshed by the ocean waves and tropical breezes.
