" Customer Service & $$'s"
Customer service a little patchy. We understand as we are Aust's but v noticeable to us as we were recently in the USA where service amazing! Think o/seas visitors would be a bit surprised by the T/lodge service. In-house food quite exp & limited hrs. House-keeping v helpful (extra towels/coffee etc) & room cln. T/lodge also v centrally located, so this also good. Air-con also wks well.

    Accommodation In Newcastle

Newcastle is a world-class holiday destination and the capital of the Hunter Valley wine region, offering eight sandy beaches, plenty of bush and lots of history, culture, vintage shopping and unique dining experiences. So check out our great Newcastle accommodation deals.

    Things to Do

Take the three-hour coastal walk along Bathers Way, from the iconic lighthouse at Nobbys Beach to the surfing mecca of Merewether Beach (home of Surfest, Australia's biggest international surfing competition, held in February), and enjoy the sun, surf, sand and rock pools along the way. If you've run out of steam by the time you get to the end, you can catch a bus back to the CBD.

Culture and history buffs will enjoy the Newcastle East Heritage Walk, where you can visit the Lock Up, the Convict Lumber Yard, the Customs House and Fort Scratchley Historic Site. Afterwards, you can take a free guided tour of the Newcastle Art Gallery's huge collection of historic and contemporary masterpieces before browsing some of the smaller private galleries around Darby Street and The Junction. If you love to rummage around in alternative clothing stores and retro boutiques, you'll also find plenty of those along Darby Street, as well as numerous gourmet cafes.

For a great night out, make sure you watch one of the live music performances at Lizotte's, in the King's Theatre building. You'll enjoy dinner and a show by classic rockers, as well as local up and coming talent. Another great live music venue is the Queens Wharf Brewery, where you can have a few cold beverages, while listening to local musicians, of a Sunday afternoon.
