To be fair, the warning signs were there and I ignored them. 1. The long list of one star reviews. Surely just a bunch of hard to please perfectionists…..wrong! 2. The complete lack of security. Just rock up to the front desk and state your name. No need for any ID. Passport? Who cares, you’re in! 3. The abysmal customer service. One old dude more interested in watching Titanic on the TV than communicating in any way. Honestly, who hasn’t seen Titanic the movie by now. 4. I was given the keys to room 014. If this ever happens to you, you poor unfortunate soul, it’s the room dreams go to die. I could actually feel the floor sinking as I walked across the room, my weight causing the mouldy floor boards to sag. The bathroom smelt of actual raw sewage. 5. Pleading for another room was a challenge. (Mainly because we were up to the good bit in Titanic when the ship, like my expectations, were sinking fast). I was given room 411 and I grabbed the keys like Kate Winslett and a floating plank. Yes, it was on the 3rd floor with no lift. Yes, there were mouse traps outside the door. And yes, it came with its very own set of windowsill pigeons (window needed to be opened in order to breathe/sweat) but I had seen and survived room 014 and I was not going back. So to sum up, if you are looking for the worst hotel in London, some place that you can tell your friends about and laugh, then this hotel is for you. Just make sure you ask to stay in room 014.

Room adequate, clean, bed comfy, tea and coffee making facilities. Very noisy next to busy street and hot so had to keep window open.

The rooms have been reduced in size to maximise the profit. My room 014 in the basement was difficult to get to as I’m a pensioner as the stairs giving access are so steep and corridors very narrow. The smell in the room from the drains was utterly disgusting. There’s not even enough space to use an ironing board. It’s not the cheapest of places but I expected better for the money paid.

Basic but fine

The hotel looks very appealing from the outside. It is fairly basic inside but has all you need for a convenient base. I was in a basement room with a window that didn't close securely and had no lock. No safe in the room or available at reception. Bed was clean and comfortable and the shower was good.

Extraordinarily small room, you would not expect from the photos. No AC or fan, it was extremely hot and we were boiling. Rented room for 3 but would be small for one person even.

Small and fairly old but very welcoming

I stay here regularly. Rooms are small and fairly old but does the job for me and is always clean. In weather like this, really need an air-conditioned room but that's not the case very often in London! Staff always very welcoming.

Unfortunately we were put in a basement room and they said they were full. The basement metal stairs are horrendous to get down. The room was so tiny you could not move around each other easily. One bed underneath the window was not fit to sleep on it was completely warn out and sagging in the middle and filthy . The bathroom was horrendous because all the tiles on the wall and the floor have mould on. There was no fan in the room and initially they said they did not have any but did then get us one that was really dusty and dirty. We cleaned that and had to buy some wipes to clean other areas as we could not wait for the cleaners in the morning. The room was also under the stairs and very noisy not only from the underground but for two nights we could here people arguing outside which meant we had to close the window and sleep in a hot smelly room. Because we had gone down for a wedding we were so stressed out we did not have the energy to change hotels and we would have had to do it at our expense. The location was excellent for both kings cross and euston which we needed but i would not recommend this hotel to anyone unless the rooms upstairs are much better which we do not know. The staff obviously try there best but whoever owns this hotel needs to sort the basement rooms out.

If you have the chance to stay at this hotel, go somewhere else! The photos on the Expedia site are deceiving!!! After being greeted in reception in the most horrible way by the lady, we went three floors up the narrowest staircase carrying our bags and arrived in the tiniest room ever! Besides the 5 hangers there is no more hanging, folding or storing space in the room. You cannot even open a carry on bag the full way on the floor. We went to reception to ask if we were given the right room, because it was very small for 2 people, and the receptionist told us that the photos were taken with a FISHEYE LENS for the rooms to look bigger!!! The sink is so tiny that there is no way that you can wash your face without it spilling everywhere. When you get in the shower you get about 45 seconds of boiling hot water and 30 seconds of ice cold water the whole time. The bed is really uncomfortable! I booked believing it would be better and stayed because I had no other option, but if you do, don’t stay here.

Small and sweaty

Standard double = basement room with no air con or fan. The room is big enough for literally just the bed, you can’t even walk around it.

You get what you pay for. Small rooms with no space for luggage. This hotel seems to be meant for people backpacking or with light luggage and short stays. Biggest downfall for us was the lack of any type of AC in the rooms and we were on the top floor so all the heat below us was rising into our room with no way to get away from it. I'm sure in a period of cooler weather it wouldn't be so bad. The best part was the short walk to the train stations so easy access if you are traveling by train.

Very convenient location at a great price. The room was clean and well kept. The staff was generally kind and welcoming, and they have a luggage room where we could leave our bags early before check in time. All that said, the rooms and bathrooms are very small (which we knew ahead of time), the bath fan was very loud, motion-activated, and could not be turned off, and it was very hot on our room (on the top floor) which made it hard to get a good night's rest. Opening the window helped, but with a noisy street, we traded heat for more noise. This is probably an excellent place to stay for one or two nights, but I don't know if I can recommend it for longer stays. For the price and the great location, it's hard to complain, but the hot room and noise make it hard to recommend.
