There’s something for everyone in the Adelaide CBD. Travellers with a sweet tooth can tickle their fancy at Haigh’s Chocolates, South Australia’s famous chocolate company. With three boutiques in the CBD, why not drop by and try a chocolate or two…or three? The Adelaide Central Markets is a hot spot for gourmet lovers as well. Here you can purchase all kinds of fresh and unique produce. Wine connoisseurs rejoice - Adelaide is also known as Australia’s wine capital, with the CBD acting as a gateway to all the famous wine regions such as Adelaide Hills, Barossa, the Fleurieu Peninsula, Clare Valley, Kangaroo Island, Limestone Coast, Southern Flinders Ranges & Outback and Riverland.
If you’re watching your waistline, take a walk around the Adelaide Zoo, which houses all kinds of animals, including a pair of giant pandas! Also be sure to visit one of Adelaide’s many museums and galleries. The South Australian Museum boasts the fossil of a four storey-tall giant squid, while the Art Gallery of South Australia has a large and comprehensive collection of Aboriginal dot paintings.
Adelaide truly comes alive during February and March, with four high-profile events taking place throughout the CBD and surrounding areas. The Adelaide Festival and Adelaide Fringe Festival are world-class events showcasing performing arts, live music and visual art displays. WOMADelaide is Australia’s take on the World of Music, Arts & Dance festival and is held over four days in the centrally-located Botanic Park. Sports fans can also get their kicks with the Clipsal 500, Australia’s largest domestic motor sport event. The Adelaide Oval also hosts a variety of sports events year-round, including the famous Ashes Cricket series taking place in the city every two years during December. Make sure to book your Adelaide CBD accommodation early during this time because they tend to sell out fast.
