It's a very peculiar arrangement Looks like the Marsden Hotel is several floors leased from the much pricier Sofitel with some reprogramming of the elevators to create exclusion from each hotel The reception is a temporary use of a guest room on the 3rd floor with no free access . You need to phone from the Sofitel for someone to come down and get you - Odd. Access to, exit from and entry into the Parking area is only possible with a staff member - Inconvenient. Room was new, clean and generous. Location is great. Staff are thin on the ground, but earnestly trying their best. Some odd arrangements.

The location was great. The room was big and comfortable however the air conditioning was not working but there was an upright fan in the room which sort of did the job. Maintenance required on the broken window blind, sink tap mixer and light bulbs that didn't work. It was a business trip for me so only spent the evenings in the room.

Was weird that the hotel was above another hotel, was had to call them to come down and get us. Paid $45 to park our car a night, the manager had to let us into the parking as they don't give codes or cards to customers. Once upstairs we were unable to go back to our car to receive our luggage so had to go back to reception, as you can not access the carpark. Was just so weird and inconvenient. There are 400 rooms on one floor, so also was a long way to reception. Overall will never stay there again. No cooking facilities not even a microwave.

Nice big rooms but no aircon for the entire floor and doesn’t look like they’re in a rush to fix it! Check-in is weird as you have to call when you arrive and someone comes down from a different floor. No one at reception when checking out. Great location but suggest they’ve got a weird subletting arrangement with Sofitel that is not quite up to the mark. Steer clear

Pretty disappointed this time.

No Air Con in Feb - just a tower fan. No mention of it at check in that the whole building was basic without AC ("the system isn't performing at full capacity") .... Requested a refund, only got 20% not recommended. Also there were power points not working and taps that were difficult to use. Light switches that were faulty.

Air condition broke!!!!!!

The hotel informed me on check in that their A/C was not working! It’s summer in NZ and 26c!!! They tried with fans but it did not help. I had booked 2 nights but left after the first night as it was so hot and stuffy. I found out also that the A/C had been off since mid January!!!!!!! Either Hotels.com or The hotel should have told me much earlier and give me the opportunity to transfer my booking elsewhere

Don’t book here

You knew the air conditioning was broken 2 weeks before our arrival & did not notify me! We slept with the sliding door wide open just to survive the night. How safe is this? Your staff lied to our faces about the a/c. We loved Auckland but will never stay at a Marsden hotel again, anywhere. You guys didn’t even have the testicular fortitude to reply to my email asking for compensation for staying in an oven! Marsden Hotel was easily the biggest and only disappointment encountered in that wonderful city. Never again!

Great Spot.

Rooms are located within the Sofitel which is a fantastic hotel Only issue was the air con wasn’t working so the rooms were very hot. Great location though.

I wouldn't stay at this property again. The air conditioning wasn't working in any rooms, and it sounds like it has been down for the past 2 weeks. Excuses were that maintenance can't resolve the issue and it will take time, while I accept this to be true there was no evidence that anyone was working on the issue. There was also no notice when booking that the Air conditioning wasn't working, the room was a sauna and I would have rather cancelled my booking. There is only 1 staff member on at a time, and they are based on the 3rd level. To check in requires someone to come down and collect you from the Sofitel lobby to bring you up to their reception area. Staff were nice enough, but the hotel feels very poorly run. They advised that the rooms were "cheaper" because of the air-conditioning not working. But they were still among the most expensive places in Auckland, definitely won't be back.

The air conditioning was not working for all the rooms. There is no mention of this of course until after you have booked a non refundable room. It was very hot in the bathroom and bedroom because of this. I would suggest calling the hotel before booking to find out. They supply a little fan which is annoying at night and worthless really. We left the sliding door open all night but there is no other window for air flow. I thought this was a hotel. All the units are individually owned and managed by at least two different companies so beware on that front. They have limited parking, so if you have a car you will have to park offsite if they dont have the room, which would be very inconvenient. It is a nice location and would consider the place again if it had working air con

Nice 1 night stay

We stayed 1 night in a deluxe room with a balcony which was very nice and found everything fine as per photos previous reviews apart from no air conditioning (but we did get an email stating this) so it was expected and although the room was warm it wasnt unbearable. Bed was comfortable and it had a lovely spacious bathroom and very nice shower We would stay again.

Convenient location. What I did not like was the fact air-conditioning had been broken for two weeks and yet we were only notified 24 hours before arriving and offered no compensation until we asked. Furthermore theY they offered a room upgrade however we could not open the balcony doors because of the noise from traffic lights and the lights from a commercial building across the road obviously shortstaffed as only one person on at one time and we were kept waiting in the foyer onto two occasions for 20 minutes whilst someone came down to escort us this is a Hicksville run business and regardless of price do not stay here

Nice location. Odd check-in process. Poor air-conditioning: no in-room control, temperature set centrally far too hot. We had to open the balcony doors, air outside 26 but inside must have been 28-29.

DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL !!!!

I cannot believe this hotel treats it guests like this, the room is so hot and the air conditioning did not work. The reception makes it out as if its the guests fault, they say they are sorting it out and never come. They claim its fixed when its not. They are understaffed and lied multiple times. The booking in process is a pain, we waited 15 minutes for the person to arrive and then you need to be escorted to your car every time if you park on site. Terrible setup, terrible serivce, terrible experience
