Grand hotel in need of a little TLC

The hotel is in a very convenient location for Newcastle city Centre. Building is very grand and beautiful. All the staff that we encountered were polite and did a great job. The room was quite small. The furniture was very old and the general feeling was that the room was very tired and could do with some TLC. Everywhere however was clean and the bed was relatively comfy. The bathroom was small and we didn’t realise until trying to shower the morning after our one nights stay that there was no shower gel. Breakfast was quite good. A few pastries, a small selection of cereals some fruit and lots of cooked items to choose from. Overall for what we paid it was ok and I would think about staying again if I’m ever in the area.

Issue with our initial room

We stayed in the hotel a couple of nights. The staff were very friendly. The room was a good size for a family of 3 but it, unfortunately, had a leaking toilet. The toilet water ran down to the carpet in the room. We told reception who arranged for a handy man to take a look and he placed towels behind it, saying it would be fine until the following day when someone would have a look at it. It wasn’t and we were eventually offered another room the following day but had to bring our bags down to reception. The new room was good but we were missing towels.

The rooms are spacious but room service is appalling and non existent. No towels in room at check in. No water in rooms. No room cleaning unless asked for at Least 3-4 times. Even then it was half done and superficial with no emptying of bins etc I’ll not recommend this hotel
