Great stay in great location, easy walking distance to city centre, with loads of bars and restaurants on your doorstep! Hotel was great, staff were very polite and helpful and breakfast was fabulous with plenty of choice! Car park discount given with booking and safe secure car park next to hotel. Will definitely stay here again

When "Pay at Hotel" is not pay at hotel.

I booked for me and 16 colleagues to stay at the hotel, choosing the pay at hotel option with Hotels.com. By midday on the day of check-in the hotels had taken 16 separate payments from my credit card. Hotels.com took no responsibility for this and passed the blame onto the hotel. The hotel weren't in the slightest bit apologetic and stated that it was their policy to do this and it would be refunded in 24/48 hours. It would appear "Pay at Hotel" is not a literal term. Hotels.com whilst willing to engage via live chat on the topic offered me no satisfactory resolution and could not provide me with the T&C's where i had supposedly agreed to this. I will be reviewing my legal options for recourse.

The Hilton Garden Inn is a lovely hotel, in a great location with good facilities - comfy bed, great shower and good breakfast. Our only disappointment was the bar service when we arrived back at the hotel after a concert, around 1045, and found that cocktails were not served after 1030 and many of the items we enquired about were not available and snacks could only be ordered at reception? As hotel guests, we felt that we were not particularly welcome to stay in the bar area and we left without finishing our rather expensive drinks. The bar experience was the only negative from an otherwise excellent few days in Birmingham.

I enjoyed an excellent 2-night stay at the HGI. The high point was the attitude of the staff. Nothing was too much trouble. On the second day, the chair in my room kept slipping making the use of my computer nigh on impossible when I needed to be able to use it. Thomas, one of the duty staff on the front desk, sent a maintenance guy to my room with a replacement chair within 15 minutes. Job done. On the same day reasonable accommodation was made by the restaurant staff in the evening to allow me a different table in the restaurant rather then the bar to cater for my arthritis because the original seat was too low and I feared not being able to get up. No debate. No pack drill. They just did it for me. The meal was very good! The only slightly disappointing feature was the breakfast, which was mass produced, which is understandable given the likely number of guests. It was certainly edible but not as appetising as it might have been. However, this does not detract from a really enjoyable staff. I had stayed there previously and will certainly stay there again.
