The resort was immaculately maintained, and we were especially impressed by the hardworking housekeeping and maintenance teams—even in the extreme heat! Their friendliness, kindness, and dedication truly stood out. Always had a hello! That said, the guest services experience could be improved. On several occasions, we entered an empty office and weren’t acknowledged until we initiated conversation. Staff seemed disengaged, and the directions we received were unclear printouts, giving no direction on where to go and were therefore unhelpful. Navigating the property was a challenge. Maps lacked restaurant names and “You are here” markers, making it difficult to find our way—even to sister resorts, where we had to use GPS to locate dining spots. It is a beautiful resort and we enjoyed our stay. These suggestions would simply help reduce stress and make it easier for guests to enjoy all the property has to offer. Clearer signage, labeled maps (on-site and printable), and more detailed info on the website—like restaurant locations, resort-specific amenities, and transportation details—would make a big difference for guests spending way too much time trying to find things.

It's a huge, crowded hotel. The beach view is beautiful, but most of it is rocky. There are a huge number of pools but little shade, which is unbearable in the Mexican summer. You have to walk a long way to get from your room to any point in the hotel—7 to 10 minutes to restaurants and the theater. Snacks are not served on the beach or pool, and eating outside the restaurants is prohibited. The water park is empty because it has to be paid separately for $20 per person per day. The clean, comfortable bedding and the courtesy of water and snacks being delivered to the room are positive. We stayed for 7 days. I booked a room with two queen beds, but they put my kids on a very uncomfortable sofa. The most frustrating part was the restaurants. You have to be lucky to get a table at the à la carte restaurants. We had a good experience at the French and Caribbean restaurants. But the others rush you to eat within 40 minutes to free up a table. It's worth checking the restaurant reviews on Google. In general, the buffets aren't good. It's sad to see so much food wasted because it's flavorless. Even the taxi driver knew about Barcelo's reputation for bad food. That was the disappointing part of the stay. I don't recommend Barcelo and we won't be back. I spent a day at the Hard Rock Hotel; the facilities are less lavish than Barcelo's, and it's a smaller hotel. I was impressed by the quality of the buffet, which had a variety of options and was very tasty.

We have been in hotel zone in Cancun several times, but came to Barcelo Maya Palace first time. The check-in was ok, but there was no induction to the resort, we had a hard time to go around the hotel without knowing where the restaurants were. Check-out was horrible. It should be a 5 minute max process, but we had to wait for 30 minutes in the line.

Some areas needs updates but is a nice hotel The highest point is the staff: friendly, kind, efficient, always ready to help Food is good (.no great) but abundant and with a very Mexican touch The “Premium area” needs more staff; you can wait 25-40 minutes because there are 2 people taking care of 5-6 families checking in or out (lowest point of the Hotel) The etiquette requirement of long pants for restaurants is ridiculous: is a Caribbean place with an average of 27 C degrees !!!! Why in hell you require long trousers in a Caribbean Resort : stupid decision !!!

Second time going back to Cancun and this resort was ok. Check in was horrible, took us 2.5 hours to get to the check in desk. GM in charge Iris Baez didn’t seem to care having guests waiting on line for hours. They gave us an “upgrade” moving us far away from restaurants, same room size and condition like we originally booked. Stuff didn’t seem to care much, drinks will take a while and some don’t even acknowledge you. Overall experience was ok but I will definitely not go back to this resort.
