The 5 star rating of this all inclusive resort is not justified. Travelling solo at this resort I was treated like a second class citizen. I often sat waiting and watching as couples and families were seated in the resteraunts before me even though I arrived and checked in well before before they did. One evening I waited an hour and a half while I watched multiple couples and families walk right in and be seated. Thankfully one of the staff members recognized me from another resteraunt and when I told her I was forgotten she sat me right away. The Good: The majority of the staff were warm and welcoming. Cleaning crew always greeted while walking the halls. The room (Penthouse 4th BLDG) was clean and had a nice view. Bed was very comfortable. The Bad: Pools were cloudy. No towels to be found at smaller pools requiring a hike to the main pool to get one. Crowded beach with not enough chairs or shade. You must get up at 6am and secure a spot. Bars use bottom shelf liquor, unless you specifically ask for name brand. Frozen drinks not blended enough with large chunks of ice Food was scarce and terrible. This was the worst part of the trip.

We've been to ABBR many many times. The location is great. The rooms are nice as well. It seems there are fewer workers so it takes longer to get service on the beach and at the pool. The food in the buffet needs to be kept warmer, much warmer. They've been working on improvements; hopefully, they will continue.

If you are looking for a resort that is calm, quiet and mostly adults then look no further. Do not expect the blaring music or party atmosphere of other hotels. The resort is extremely clean, offers activities and surprisingly it is handicapped accessible which not many hotels in Mexico offer. The breakfast and lunch buffet are delicious and the food varies with each day. The four sit-down dinner restaurants offer super chef quality food. The drinks are top quality served in glasses in all the restaurants and bar areas. Unless, your on the beach they will be served in durable plastic cups which is understandable. I used the spa facilities and they were a bit pricey, but worth every cent. The whole hotel staff from the minute upon-arrival until you leave give their best to serve you and make you feel comfortable. The beach is full of rocks on one side upon entering the water on the right side which almost no one uses. However, the left side next to another hotel there are no rocks and full of sand which is much easier. It is also the side to walk down the beach to go towards the public beach entrance and the sea turtle sanctuary. The hotel is situated in the town of Akumal which is small and there are only a few stores to reach by walking within 20 minutes. By vehicle, the town of Tulum and the Tren Maya Tulum station are a 30 minute drive. The Tulum airport is up to a 60 minute drive. Hint: If you want to experience the Tren Maya, you can do so from Tulum.

This resort was quiet and relaxing - exactly what I was looking for. Drinks/food were excellent. Comfortable bed. The only unfortunate aspect, was the amount of people who stake claim to a cabana/chairs around the main pool and then you don’t see them for hours. I was up every day to watch the sunrise from my balcony that overlooked the pool and every day this happened. The cabanas even have a sign on them saying this behavior is not allowed but no staff intervened. There is also a large amount of seaweed that gathers at the water’s edge. I’ll give the resort credit, they do try to haul literal dump trucks full of seaweed out but it seems like a never ending battle and should be a better way to manage this. Overall, I rate the resort 5 stars based on hospitality, drinks, food and live music every night.

This was our second and most likely last vacation in this resort. 1. AC in the room was not working. We asked to fix it several times. And it appears we weren’t the only ones. Several guests had the same problem and it was never fixed. 2. If you come to the beach after 8am - 99% you will not find free umbrella. We got lucky once. 3. Even though we booked 8 months in advance and at the time of booking asked for a room away from the main pool we were given room right in front of it. When asked to change rooms they said that nothing was available. Positives: 1. The beach is beautiful and if you’re into snorkeling you will not be disappointed. 2. Staff is friendly and our room was cleaned promptly. 3. Brazilian restaurant was very good. Hope this will help others to decide if this place is good for them.

On the beach. Excellent value for price. Mid size. Positives: All rooms have ocean views. Great vegetarian options. Diverse international visitors. Good snorkeling from beach. Turtle sites are nearby though require additional payment. Excellent yoga and meditation classes. Good attentive staff. Though slightly confused when it comes to service and reservations of beach chairs and gazebos. Negatives: Access to Tulum and other adjacent sites are limited. Cab fares via hotel are exorbitant. One can walk 15 mins on beach to town nearby and then hop on a cab to everywhere. But that’s not ideal while on vacation. Especially given Mexico’s arrangement to negotiate a ride each time. Thus, once there, feels a bit stuck.

This was our second time to this resort and once again it didn’t disappoint! The staff is top notch! Incredibly kind. The penthouse room is to die for, definitely spend the extra for it! It feels and looks like a tropical oasis in every inch of this resort. Can’t say enough great things about Akumal Bay Resort!

This property is great and a very intimate set up. It’s quiet and tranquil. The rooms were good. It’s only a 4 for 2 things : they were always out if towels at the pool/beach. The food was ok, nothing great just average. I’d go back regardless. Good value resort
