Staff are great, friendly. Bathroom tiles are mouldy. Structure of the building is so old and unsafe. There are big cracks already in the cement wall. Bunker bed (upper side) is dirty and dusty).

The room and facilities were very clean The staff were nice I would not go back because the unisex bathroom had a light curtain between the hall and bathroom which blew in the wind allowing people to see in. The shower cubicles did not have any room to turn on the shower without getting wet nor to take your clothes off and store them in the dry. Therefore you had to strip off in full view. I did find a single shower down the hall afterwards which I could have used that had plenty of room.

Very very basic

Pros: The staff were lovely and the sheets and towels were very clean.
Cons: The common areas need to be cleaned regularly. And the room needs to be cleaned better.
Location: Excellent location - just off George street. A bit tricky to find as there is no lobby or reception as you enter.
The price is right - but perhaps not for what you get. Bathrooms not clean, not able to lock shower door, kitchen old and dirty, breakfast - white bread toast, jam and butter that had been used for weeks, cockroach dead on stairs that was not removed during our whole stay, curtains and window filthy. Also a dead cockroach under the bed. One thing that was very good was that the sheets and towels were clean and nicely presented. Also the staff also were extremely nice and accommodating, however, I would not recommend this place. There are other back packers with clean share bathrooms for a similar price and location.

Great location but that's about all.....

Pros: I liked the location, very central to everything. The beds were comfortable and the sheets were clean.
Cons: Remove the carpet in the hall area on the first level. Provide RECYCLE bins for guests to use. Clean the rooms and bathrooms thoroughly.
Location: Paddys Markets, shops, pubs, restaurants etc.
I stayed at the Sydney City Hostel for three days. From Friday until Sunday. The room was reasonably clean, quite dusty though. The window would not close, it was jammed open about 10 cm. I asked staff if they could close it but it wouldn't close due to the external work (painting) happening outside. My concern was cockroaches and mosquitoes would come in throughout the night as there are no screens. The power point in the room was not attached very well which I believe is a safety concern. The hallway carpet stinks and needs to be removed. The showers were mouldy and were unclean. The shared kitchen was okay and clean but dishes (clean and dirty) were left on the sink all the time. The worst part about the kitchen was the smell of cigarette smoke and other smells which came in through from the small balcony area next door. Loud heavy metal music was playing each night in this balcony area as well. There is no recycling at all in the Hostel. This is shocking for me as I am hugely concerned about our planet. I have sent an email to the manager of the Hostel asking why they do not provide recycle bins for guests to use.

Great location but hotel not for everybody!

Great location. Breakfast was offered, but only corn flakes available. I preferred other options (thank goodness for nearby supermarket!). Second floor toilet and showers barely tolerable. Anyway location and cost outweighed those negatives.

Great location. Cheap room that sufficed.

You get what you psy for. Don't expect much though breakfast was poor.

You get what you pay for.

Friendly staff, less facilities (I stayed in a shared 4-bed dorm, can't expect more). Otherwise bathrooms were clean and room was okay. Not bad. Would recommend for a cheap stay in CBD.

Good location comes at a cost.

The hostel was ideally located for our weekend convention. Short walk away from a lot of nice places to eat and from the harbour. Unfortunately the state of the hostel is very shoddy. The bathrooms don't drain well so there is always a wet floor for hours after someone has showered. The rooms are pretty small (which is what your paying for really) but were comfortable enough for the short amount of time spent in there.

Please do not book through wotif or anyone else.

This hostel is a disgrace! The people who run this hostel have no care for peoples safety. The rooms, showers and toilets are disgusting. We refused to stay even one night. Wotif refused refund as did hostel management.PLEASE DON'T STAY HERE YOU'LL RUIN YOUR HOLIDAY. P.S I HAVE REPORTED THEM TO AUTHORITIES REGARDING ELECTRICAL HAZARDS AND LACK OF HYGIENE.

No hot water!

Pros: Location and price. Beds quite comfortable and clean.
Cons: Please fix plumbing and nails sticking out of floorboards.
Location: Chinatown and great eateries close by.
Great location, good price, bit noisy outside but to be expected in city centre. Room quite clean and bed quite comfortable, with clean sheets. Shared bathroom had no running hot water - both morning and evening! Thank goodness it was a warm day! Went to get a glass of water in shared kitchen late at night and dirty dishes, cups, cutlery all over the place - really filthy. It was cleaned up in the morning, though. Good solid construction so couldn't hear any other guests. We stayed in family room no. 3 and there were a couple of large nails sticking out of the floorboards in the middle of the room. I was barefoot so could have injured myself really badly. We covered them up.
