"A good one at Whangaporoa "
The Rooms are spacious, comfortable and have great views to the South and East over the Hauraki Gulf. The service was outstanding. Nothing seemed too much and offered freely such as a clothes horse, and extra heater. The room is well appointed with good kitchen facility, bathroom has plenty of room and also the "sitting area". The only slight down is that the room didn't make use of the northerly/sunny aspect which on dismal days would greatly improve daytime spent indoors.

The heater is not sufficient enough to heat up the room especially when you arrived in a cold early spring , wet and cold .

Auckland Takapuna Oaks - Bayswater Hotels

Auckland Takapuna Oaks

1 Beresford Street, Bayswater - Map
"Advertised as a "5 star boutique apartment hotel'."
I found out through a work colleague it used to be a retirement village which was converted into a hotel. Some of the fittings and fixtures resonated that fact so it gave off a strange feel. Overall it was comfortable. The lady on reception was lovely but the other two guys a little unprofessional. Asked for help with luggage trolley and was told I "was welcome to borrow it", meaning I should take my own luggage from the room to the car (actually quite challenging!). Service overall was sub standard, hotel policy states "ask if you wish to have linen changed for less than a 3 day stay", we did and were told by house keeping only 1 of the 2 sheets were to be changed. Also didn't change pillow cases citing an environmental policy they had. Felt overall this was not 5 star, more like a comfortable 3-4 star run by people who don't understand how those nice finishing touches make guests welcome.

"Handy location."
Handy location to motorway and albany. A little noisy at night due to bar backing onto pool area and traffic. Beds comfortable, large tv in room, balcony good and cooking facilities sufficient.

We had a pleasant experience. The staff remembered to leave a cot for our 3 month old as requested on line. We arrived very late but the staff made it very easy for us to get into our room after I called them earlier that evening.

"Great stay"
Very pleasant, clean room. Only comment was the cover was ajar (and couldn't be closed) on the heat pump, and the heat pump filter was clogged with dust. Other than that super comfortable.

One of Auckland North’s must-visit suburbs is Devonport, a seaside village with amazing views of both the Auckland CBD and the Rangitoto Island volcano. Pick up some boutique clothing or jewellery from one of the shops housed in heritage-listed buildings. Drop into a restaurant or cafe for lunch with harbour views or take a journey back through history at the Devonport Museum or the Torpedo Bay Navy Museum, which is in an old submarine mining station.

Ready to hit the beach? You’re in the right place, with 20 beaches to pick from including Cheltenham Beach, a long stretch of sand with lovely grassy picnic areas. For a brilliant view, take a walk to the top of North Head Historic Reserve that takes you past tunnels and guns from New Zealand’s military past.

The North Shore is bursting with art and culture, and suburbs from Devonport to Takapuna have galleries worth dropping into. You might even be able to visit a local painter or potter’s private studio. The Pumphouse in Takapuna is an old water pumping station given new life as a community theatre, and you can catch everything from drama to dance and children’s shows. Pick up some unique reminders of your trip at one of the many local markets, including the Albany Farmers Market or the Takapuna Flea Market, or browse an antique shop or head to a Westfield Mall for some air-conditioned comfort.

There’s still plenty more to do in Auckland. Take a ferry to Rangitoto Island and walk to the summit to explore the amazing views, or take a detour to explore the lava tunnels and caves. Along the way, the path will take you past rocky areas, bushlands and heaps of Pohutukawa trees. While you’re here, you’ll obviously want to experience the best of the Auckland CBD too, so check out the excellent food and shopping, Sky Tower and the Auckland Museum.
