I booked Dunes based on the information provided on the Expedia page. Specifically, the description mentioned the included daily room service. As I found out, there was no daily room service. When I inquired at the desk, I was told that there is a room service once a week – either on Tuesday or Wednesday. Come Wednesday, and the room service consisted of changing the towels and taking out the trash. The beds were not made. Another inquiry, and I was told that: “You were supposed to tell them if you wanted the beds to be made up.” I have never stayed in a hotel where one is supposed to tell the staff that the beds have to be made up. Besides, apparently, one has to wait for the room service person to tell this. So, long story short, the situation with room service at Dunes is… sketchy.
I stayed at the Palmetto tower in the room eight eleven. I did not expect any luxury, but some things were clearly substandard. The board on the murphy bed was plain broken. The decorations hanging in the bathroom were rusted – and I am not talking about antique rustic look, I am talking about plain old unsightly rust on something which should have been replaced at little expense many years ago.
On the positive side, the pool was clean, water parks were in OK condition, and the access to beach was convenient.
