Conveniently located, easy to find when driving and easy lift access. Parking not signposted, they hadn’t printed the parking booking sheet for the day so I kept getting told I hadn’t reserved a spot, until I insisted several times I had. Very small rooms, especially when staying in a twin with a work colleague.

I stayed at the Ibis on Swanston Street as I was attending summer school at university. I booked through Wotif. I didn’t realise it was only a 3 star hotel at the time of booking as the price didn’t reflect a budget rating, that would not normally worry me for a short stay. The room was extremely compact, and came with no information about the hotel e.g I tried to turn the air conditioner up but it was locked at a cool level. Without a phone inside the room I used my mobile to call reception at which time they altered the setting. As I got into bed I squeezed beside the bed parallel to the window, once in bed I discovered my feet were covered in dust, fluff and long black hair! Gross! It was difficult to sleep at night with only one small pillow and was awoken early with building works at my window. I opened the blind only to quickly close it again as I was greeted with workers at the window! At the buffet breakfast I was required to head back to reception as I needed a voucher to access it which must have over looked at check-in. Breakfast was the final low, queue for a coffee at a machine that needed refilling. Pastries all eaten and juice only enough to fill half a cup. The staff were packing up breakfast and it was an eat what is left scenario. I made toast and sat down, as I pulled my chair in I cut my finger on the trendy steele seat. Seriously, the worst overnight accommodation I have ever experienced in Melbourne!

Hi DMS, Sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your stay. The price of your stay would have been inflated during event dates (Australian Open) and is not necessarily a reflection of the star rate. I can assure you that 4 and 5 star hotels would have had a similar price increase during this period. However, there are a number of issues which you have raised that need addressing. The managers responsible are currently looking to eliminate those. Thank you for your feedback.

Hi, Thank you or your feedback. Being an economy style property our rooms are more compact than some of the other local properties. However they are clean and comfortable for a stay with pricing in line with our economy style. We don't aim to be anything we are not and all of our photos clearly indicate our style and room layouts. Being part of AccorHotels, we have many sister properties in the region that may be better equipped for your travel needs next time visit Melbourne. Thank you for staying with us and we hope to be able to assist you in future.

Would stay again however as with other ibis I have stayed at they use small fitting sheets that don’t stay tucked in and doonas that are also too small.

Just expected there may be facilities in room to heat food e.g. microwave/ so ended up stuck with groceries that couldn't be used, and no utensils or ability to "borrow" the use of a microwave from anyone. My mistake though for assuming.

Dear Helen Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience at the ibis Melbourne Swanston Street. I am sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations; please allow me to express my sincerest apologies. Unfortunately being an economy hotel, we keep our in room facilities simple and both dining options in the hotel are independently owned and operated which makes it difficult to assist guest with food requests. Further, it is a food safety issue to heat up food on guest behalf which can be frustrating for such a simple request. We appreciate your sharing your concerns, and it is our hope that you will give us the opportunity to better serve you in the near future. Sincerely,
