Taronga Zoo

This world-renowned zoo is cherished for its Sydney Harbour views and its residents.

Nestled into 185-acres (75-hectares) of hilly harbor-side bushland in the upscale suburb of Mosman, you’ll find one of the world’s most spectacular zoos. Taronga Zoo is the perfect place to encounter Australia's wildlife. And, with more than 2,500 animals representing 340-plus species, Taronga has the entire world covered.

Taronga Zoo is a 12-minute ferry ride from Circular Quay. Disembark at the Zoo Wharf, grab a map and climb aboard the Sky Safari for the scenic cable-car ride to the top of the hill.

Australian native animals are strongly represented at the zoo, including koalas, Tasmanian devils, echidnas and kangaroos. Pay a visit to the Nocturnal House where you’ll see many of Australia’s marsupials at play, including the platypus and the bilby, Australia’s answer to the Easter Bunny.

Enjoy the playful antics of the juvenile Asian elephants and see the ring-tailed lemurs as they swing through their enclosure. Watch otters play and meerkats scurry about their rocky home. Give your feet a rest during the free bird show, as kites, black cockatoos and a giant condor fly free overhead.

Learn more about the zoo’s residents at the free daily keeper talks or book an Animal Encounters experience where you’ll get to feed the giraffes, meet a cute koala, or have your photograph taken with an owl perched on your arm.

If you’re hungry, stop in at one of the zoo’s cafés or grab a sunny spot in one of the picnic areas, perfect for taking in the views. For a memorable zoo experience, consider joining the Roar & Snore program. This overnight adventure entails camping overnight in safari tents, enjoying food and wine, and seeing the animals up-close.

Taronga Zoo is open daily, including public holidays. If traveling by ferry, buy a pass which includes the ferry ticket as well as zoo entry for a discounted price. Parking is available on-site; fees apply after the first 90 minutes.
