The Bronte Boutique Hotel

"Very Highly Recommended"
We "discovered" the Bronte online and were so glad we did. From the beautiful ambience and old world charm to the hospitallity of the staff down to the the tea station with gourmet blends of teas and coffees and home made biscuits this beautiful establishment was amazing! Our room had modern decore whilst retaining its original charm. The ensuite was roomy and modern and the bed one of the mos comfortable we have slept on. The breakfast served on the upstairs balcony overlooking the quaint town and river was nothing short of amazing! We chose a superbly decadent porridge and white chocolate with fresh berries and nuts topped with home blended berry yoghurt and served with a plunger coffee or tea of choice. Then to our amazement we realised this was only the first course and was soon followed by a cooked meal of breakfast sausage, beautifully cured bacon rashes, tomato, mushroom and poached eggs on sourdough toast. We travelled all day on the back of this meal. There are a number of evenening dinning options in this blissfully quite little town. We chose the beautifull hotel a short walk along the main street with its ye olde world rivertown charm. The food was amazing and for an intimate dinning experience be sure to request to be seated in the upstairs Julie Mullen room which also has its own bar and personal attentive service. The Bronte is so well worth the short drive of the highway into the quaint river town of Morpeth. Definately 5 star and we would happily give it more

    Pocket Guide: Maitland

The Hunter Valley region of New South Wales is famous for being wine country, with more than 150 wineries in the area to visit. Maitland is a colourful city on the banks of the Hunter River, which flows from the slopes of Mount Royal Range to the mouth of the Tasman Sea at Newcastle. Maitland is not only in the thick of the region but also a relaxing destination of its own where culture and history are always close at hand. In the mood for a glass of Hunter Semillon? Maybe a peek in an art gallery or a refreshing walk through nature? Book a stay in one of our Maitland hotels and you can do it all.

With a population close to 70,000, Maitland is a 166km road trip from Sydney and a 35km trip from Newcastle. In the past it was three separate towns – East Maitland, West Maitland and Morpeth, which were fused to become the city of Maitland in 1945. Once the main town of the Hunter region, it still sports a number of historic buildings. 1800s-style architecture lines areas like High Street and Ken Tubman Drive in town. You’ll have plenty of options to pick from if you’re looking for coffee or a meal: Maitland City Centre is an open-air shopping mall in the heart of the town with restaurants and cafes at the ready along with antique shops, fashion outlets and big name retailers like Kmart and Woolworths. For a look at Maitland’s vibrant arts scene, visit the Maitland Regional Art Gallery (MRAG) to see exhibitions from local and national artists.

Maitland Gaol, built in 1844, housed some of Australia’s worst criminals until it closed its doors in 1998. Now it’s open to the public, and you can learn about the history of the jail and some of its most infamous characters with a themed tour, a self-guided audio tour or even an overnight stay (if you dare). For more historical sightseeing, take a look at Grossman House on Church Street for a gander inside an authentic Victorian-era residence.

But don’t restrict your time in the Hunter to Maitland. There’s so much more to explore! Embark on a wine tour, play a game of golf or take a walk through one of the nearby national parks such as Yengo – there are heaps of activities. Book your Maitland hotel with us today and start hunting the Hunter!
