    Accommodation In Hawaii

Although Hawaii is the “youngest” of the 50 United States, this lively archipelago boasts a rich history along with modern luxury and some good clean fun in the sun. While most travellers find Hawaii accommodation on one island and explore every beach and canyon it has to offer, we say go beach-hopping, because more is more. From the monuments in Honolulu and the wilderness preserves of Kauai to the seaside volcanoes of Hawaii (aka “The Big Island”), you won’t be lacking exciting activities or opportunities to be blissfully lazy.

Don’t be fooled by the rugged cliffs and secluded lagoons. You can take your pick from numerous hotels in Hawaii’s eight main islands, ranging from simple beach bungalows to luxurious resorts. To soak in some maritime history in Oahu, book accommodation near Pearl Harbor, which is within walking distance to several museums and memorials, as well as Aloha Stadium.

    Things to Do in Hawaii

Most travellers start in Honolulu—on the island of Oahu—a city with easy airport access, fascinating local and national history, and delicious eats all along the beachfront streets of Waikiki. We’re talking everything from juicy burgers to fresh seafood and mai tais galore—mai tai, your tai, everybody’s tai! A couple of islands to the east, Maui owns the bragging rights to Haleakala Crater, the rim of which sports unbeatable views of the surrounding forest. Just don’t fall in! When you can peel yourself away from Maui’s Ho’okipa Beach, remind yourself that bigger isn’t always better in Hawaii (just ask the indigenous fiery skipper butterfly). Still, the Big Island is a must-see; pack for a hike so you can visit the Akaka Falls State Park in Hilo and the Volcanoes National Park on the island’s southern coast. After that, if you’re not quite ready to trade togs for real clothes, float on over to Kauai, northwest of Oahu. This hibiscus-shaped island is dotted with accommodation in Hawaii’s secluded rainforests, where you can fall asleep to the sound of waterfalls.

    Getting To & Around Hawaii

While many islands have their own airport, Honolulu International Airport (HNL) is close to beautiful Hawaii hotels and welcomes heaps of intercontinental flights every day. Car hire (especially if you book it with Wotif) is a winning option if you’re not planning to visit multiple islands on one holiday. Rail service is available in Oahu and buses run through all the main islands. Otherwise, you can hail a cab and explore all the top neighbourhoods on foot. To hop from island to island, catch a ferry and enjoy the views as you float by…but first you’ve got to book those flights to Hawaii!

    Best Time to Visit Hawaii

With very little variation in its gorgeous weather, Hawaii is a great choice year-round, but the busiest time is June through to August. If you like, skip the tourist crowds but not the festivals, which fill the island state’s calendar from the Honolulu Festival in March to Kauai’s Festival of Lights in December.

Ready for a Hawaii holiday, but not sure how you can do it all? When you’re wondering how, think Wotif. We’ve found sweet deals on airfares and accommodation, so you can mix, match and bundle the perfect tropical trip.

My family and I were happy with our experience at Pacific Beach Hotel. The staff were kind enough to accommodate an early check in request and were pleasant throughout our stay. The room was whilst small-ish was fine for my husband and our two boys. I'm glad we opted for a partial ocean view room as it provided some nice light and air. We didn't use the pool much as it wasn't very inviting and the hotel is literally across the road from the beach. The staff were helpful and the tour desk in front of reception was great.

"Very dated but clean and convenient!"
For a cheap option to be close to the airport this hotel was fine. The hotel is old and very dated, the room smelt a bit stale and musty and the grounds are nothing to write home about. I was in the "tower" block which kind of had a council flats feel about it - lots of rooms jammed together with hallways that went forever. In saying this, the staff were very friendly and efficient and everything was very clean and worked - for the price all was good. I definitely wouldn't want to hang out for long on the premises or base a holiday here but would recommend it for a stopover after or before a flight, or for a short business trip.

"A budget Accommodation that made our stay"
It's a not far from the beach and very close to the local bus stops. We used this to get around Lihue and was great. The local buses were good to go out a little as well quite cheaply. The staff were great and helped were ever they could and they have a phone in the communal tea area to use for free, to organise activities. The had coffee facilities and a microwave to use as well, which was perfect for heating up food. The room and bathroom are small but still very comfortable.

Castle Kiahuna Plantation & Beach Bungalows

2253B Poipu Rd, Koloa - Map
"Attractive, large hotel right on the beach."
We enjoyed a happy stay at Castle Kiahuna. It's a large, sprawling facility that covers previous plantation grounds, so the gardens and lawns are extensive i.e. plenty of space to run around! The grounds staff do an excellent job in keeping it all attractive. The room blocks are well separated, so there's no feeling of over crowding. We initially were allocated a room at the rear of the resort, with pleasant garden views but it was quite a walk from the beach, so after two nights we moved to a room close to the sands, that had a lovely outlook over the ocean - perfect for watching the sunsets. This was a bit more expensive, but it's all about the experience. Very nice beach, with plenty of room and good snorkelling conditions. Rooms are comfortable and well appointed, with large balconies, but very noisy if you have a ground floor room, as you hear all the movements of the guests above you. Seek a top floor room if you can. There's no pool on site - you need to walk across the road to the sports club for pool access and we didn't bother to do this, so I can't tell you what it is like. The beach was enough for us. We also did not eat at the restaurant in the hotel, but the menu prices were on the expensive side. Multiple eating options are available at the shopping village opposite, if you are looking to save on dining costs.
