Make sure you don't forget to have a major credit card, everything you do they have to put a hold on for at least $300+. They were able to work with me with the $430 resort fee, I did not expect because I bought a package deal and resort fees were in it already. This is common just make sure you call ahead and read all the fine print!! Overall this trip was good , and maybe that's because you're in Hawaii so how could it be bad. Just bad timing with the pool closure and unforeseen closure of their lagoon due to weather. The staff was very nice and helpful. I would consider staying here again.. maybe. Because it's a convenient walk to the village. Mahala to the staff!

An Enjoyable Stay

The Royal Kona Resort is well situated near shops, bars and restaurants and has onsite parking charged at US$25 per night. Its quite an old property so the room look a little dated, however good facilities including coffee making and ice are available and rooms were serviced daily during our stay. I had to ask for more towels, although the room was booked for 3 people only 2 sets of towels were supplied. There was a long queue for reception when we arrived which is far from ideal after a long flight, with no attempt made to reduce the queuing time. At other times reception appeared to be completely unmanned. The pool area is pleasant, but much smaller than it appears in the photos. Towels are provided and in general the pool area was quiet. We did not eat at the resort, but we enjoyed a very nice complimentary Mai Tai!!

The hotel was clean, and the room service was excellent. Try parking along the road before prepaying for parking. Once the hotel adds parking to your room, they don't remove it.

As someone else put it - it’s a 31/2 star hotel with a 5 star location and other things that can’t be beat. They’re renovating which is super cool as some of the rooms could use it. Maybe throw a microwave in each room as well and update the carpets , but the beds are super comfortable The kindness of the people that work there. The overall long ago vibe that captures old school feelings. The food. Drinks. Bar. Yum 😋 Beautiful can’t be beat setting. Stayed here 3 times. It’s a gem in Kona. ❤️
