Islington Hotel

"Exceptional Hotel & Staff."
My partner and I have been staying here on occasion for the last 10 years. This has given us the opportunity to sample the hotel over changes of staff. It's clear the owners of this hotel only employ people of the highest standard in their particular field and the staff certainly befit the bespoke surroundings of this wonderful grand house. Our last stay was truly exceptional and the while the food while is always excellent, on this occasion it was exemplary. I highly recommend this hotel and extend my thanks to their general manager Gareth and his team for a lovely experience. We have sampled most of the better hotels in Tasmania and Islington is the clear leader. See you again soon Islington!

"A perfect location which suited us very well."
The St Ives complex was very easy to find and only 5 mins from Salamanca Place and Hobart foreshore. Although we didn't frequent the Hobart CBD it wasn't far from there either.

A good place to stay although no view from the apartment I had. Walking distance to anywhere in the Hobart CBD and Salamanca, many nice restaurants within 10 minutes walk. If you need car parking make sure you book a space in advance.

Best Western Hobart

156 Bathurst Street, Hobart - Map
I went to Hobart for a five day business trip and found the hotel closely located to my office. The room was a larger size than I'd imagined for the prize I paid, which was great. The bathroom was simple, a bit on the small side, but very clean and functional, and the bath was nice. The best thing about the room was no doubt the super comfy kingsize bed - better than my own bed! Add to that the good TV and I was perfectly happy. While there were plenty of drink choices, I would've liked a few more snack choices in the mini bar, but in the end it was probably better that way! Very happy overall and would stay there again.

"Great classic building close to everything"
The staff were really friendly and the hotel itself had a sort of subdued class that I really wasn't expecting. I rolled in after a rally with a lot of bags and boxes and they were very accomodating and understanding. I would thoroughly recommend these guys, my only complaint is that I was down stairs with no elevator... Didn't bother me as the price was awesome :)

"Great B&B, nice and private"
Really enjoyed our stay at Clydesdale. The room was basic but nice, and staff were only there in the mornings, so it was very private. Had off-street parking, included breakfast, and Tim, the breakfast chef always had a smile on his face, and tips about the best places to go.

    Accommodation In South Hobart

Explore iconic Hobart landmarks just outside of this beaut Tassi city, with our selection of southern suburbs hotels.

    Things to do

Beach bums and water babies will be more than pleased with Hobart's southern suburbs. There's Kingston Beach and Tyndall Beach, with the Browns River mouth right in between. Plus, Alum Cliffs Track is a scenic 45 minute walk with some great views of the Derwent River and Kingston Beach. Be careful in wet weather though, the clay track can get a bit slippery. Another great way to enjoy the region's natural treasures is with a walk to the top of Mt Nelson, where you can catch a bird's eye view of Hobart. Feeling peckish? When you reach the lookout, there's a cafe where you can sit down for a bite to eat and rest your legs after that long walk. There's also a nice park area, perfect for picnics. For a laid-back afternoon, you can also sit on the banks of the Derwent River and try to spot penguins, dolphins and platypus.

A great way to welcome in the New Year is by watching the last leg of the Sydney to Hobart yacht race, hosted at the Royal Yacht Club in Sandy Bay. This event isn't the only thing Sandy Bay is known for. It's also home to the Wrest Point Casino, the first casino ever opened in Australia, so make sure you snap a photo of yourself standing in front of this icon. Another piece of architecture, iconic to southern Hobart, is the Shot Tower in Taroona. This is the largest freestone tower in the world, which means that it was constructed entirely without mortar. It's 58 metres high and offers some nice views at the top.

    Getting there

The southern suburbs are between 20 and 30km from the Hobart Airport, but the CBD is only about 10-15km away. You can get around most places in the southern suburbs by bus, but you might find that a car is more convenient if you want to explore the area's natural landmarks.

So, grab a seat on one of these cheap flights to Hobart, book your southern suburbs accommodation with us and and you'll be enjoying iconic Tasmanian sights in no time.
