Margaret, Carlo and the entire staff is always so welcoming. I’ve stayed at this hotel probably seven times and I highly recommend the location, the customer service is excellent. And you will sleep well. Small rooms but that’s New York City. Who wants to stay in their room? Right near all Broadway shows.

I stayed here for three nights. I understand it’s a budget hotel, and you get what you pay for. But certain things can’t really be compromised. The first room I discovered ants on the floor by the window. I was then moved to another room, but this room instead had a bunch of flies. I must have killed 20+ flies.

Sad at the St. James hotel in NY

I am amazed that this hotel has an excellent rating. The lobby is shabby and depressing and the rooms are the same. Nothing was as clean as one might expect. I realize it was less expensive than other places in the city which is why I chose it but once I saw the room I just could’nt stay there and booked another hotel.

The room was cozy, but I could not see a family bigger than 2 fitting here; plenty of storage space for longer trips. The AC ran well, especially for being summer. The bathroom is smaller than anticipated. Wi-Fi was okay, but the fridge provided could have been a bit bigger to keep cold drinks. There is a microwave in the lobby area. Location is the reason we got this hotel and it did not disappoint. I would consider this place again if the price were reasonable.

The staff were friendly and helpful. The location can’t be beat if you’re visiting Manhattan. However, if you get a room facing the street, being so close to the action may mean increased noise levels. With the A/C going and earplugs it wasn’t bad though. I would stay here again.

The room did not look anything like the photo. It was not kept up. I knew this was an old hotel but having the fire alarm outside our hotel room with a sign that said "not in use" has to be some code violation when you are on a top floor. The room itself had no exhaust working in the bathroom and I'm not really sure what they put in the combo shampoo/conditioner that said "HAIR" but I think it was soap. The only thing this hotel has is the close location to the theater district which allows you to walk if you are seeing a play. I guess go into this reservation knowing you are getting a 2 star hotel at best.
