Holiday To Mackay

We’ll give you one guess at what city is nicknamed the “Sugar Capital” of Australia. Nope, it’s not Yallingup. The answer is a lovely city on Queensland’s eastern coast by the name of Mackay.

It’s got everything from the biggest national park on the continent to being a stone’s throw away from the Great Barrier Reef. Check out Wotif’s amazing offers on Mackay holiday deals and go now.

Things to Do in Mackay

First on your long list of to-dos is to get a vehicle from Wotif’s Mackay car hire options. Next, take a drive to Eungella National Park and spend the day on some of Australia’s most impressive hiking trails. There’s two major waterfalls within the park that you must visit. Take a nice bushwalk to either Araluen or Wheel of Fire Falls—or both! If you get hot, just cool off with a dip in the pools below. One of the most popular attractions in the park is the viewpoint over the Broken River. The flowing water is home to a huge population of platypuses, the beaver-looking creatures with webbed feet and a duck bill.

No holiday in Mackay is complete without a visit to the Great Barrier Reef, the world’s largest coral reef system. The reef is only a few kilometres offshore, so book a spot on a dive tour and you’ll have one of the greatest experiences of your life. The crystal clear water makes spotting creatures like the giant clam, blue starfish and green sea turtles easy as pie. That’s a few of the animals you’ll encounter, but if we listed all of them, you wouldn’t be done reading until next week.

Finally, when the sun says goodbye for the night, it’s time to cheers to your fantastic holiday. If you eat in the Marina Village, you won’t have to go far to find a suitable watering hole. "Great value for money. Rooms were clean, great AC and blockout curtains. Carting our bags upstairs was a bit tricky, but nice to have the balcony overlooking the pool. Housekeeping items were left out in the carports for our whole stay, bit untidy but mostly a great motel."
