The elegant monument reveals the names of 202 people from various countries who died in the blasts. Approach the solemn commemoration site to meditate on the tragedy, which involved three separate bombs.

Admire the greenery of the many exotic plants in large pots at the base of the ornate stone carving. Gaze up at the tasteful monument which holds a large marble plaque engraved in gold with the names of the victims. In addition to the fatalities, 209 people were injured as a result of the suicide blast, car bomb and a smaller device. See the structure at night, when it is illuminated.

If the temporary guardrails are open, climb the steps on either side of the main platform to get a closer look at the list of victims and their 20 nationalities. Tall poles along the two sets of stairs were installed to hold flags from these countries. On the platform in front of the plaque is a water feature with a mosaic lotus flower.

Note that the attacks were carried out in popular vacation locations, near nightclubs and the United States consulate. More than 100 members of radical Islamist group Jemaah Islamiyah, which planned the attacks, have been convicted of terrorism since 2002 and some were executed. The monument stands on the site of the former Paddy’s Pub, which was destroyed in the bombing.
