Property was nice but rooms were very small and drab, drunks hanging around front of building when returned to hotel which was uncomfortable

I'm pleased to read you found our staff friendly and location great, it however saddened me to read that was all you liked about your stay with us. Unfortunately, our building being 102 years old has a different layout compared to modern day hotels. Our standard rooms are internal rooms that unfortunately don't get as much natural light. I am sorry the room did not meet expectations; however, I can assure you the other room categories are different and not all the same. We have permanently closed our restaurant down indefinitely; this was not a decision made lightly. This means we no longer operate a hot style buffet breakfast only a continental, I apologise for any inconveniences this caused. I was saddened to read that you found the hotel was not up to expectations as while we are unable to deny the general condition of the room and hotel given its age, the hotel conducted a de-branding exercise last year by removing the Mercure brand and returning the hotel to its original name the Grosvenor Hotel Adelaide to enable us to reposition it as an economy hotel in the twilight of its existence as the intention is to completely redevelop the property in the not-too-distant future. The top floor smells really bad. There was no hot water in the room and when I reported it the maintenance staff were rude to us. The heating was not sufficient for the cold weather and it's not individually controlled. To rectify this the hotel waved the car parking fee and allowed us to shower in another room which was not clean. The bathroom basin had hair clippings on it. Overall really disappointing stay.

A fan or reverse cycle air conditioning would be nice in the room. We turned the ducted heating off but the room needs air circulation. Otherwise, hotel is in a great location, nice and quiet on the 3rd floor where we stayed and convienent on-site parking underneath. Will stay again!

Great location. Extremely friendly welcoming staff. Great size room and updated facilities. Lovely old building. My only recommendation would be a fan in the room to circulate the air. The room only had central air and wasn’t enough fresh air.
