Spacious Rooms, Alright Stay.

The room was spacious and perfect for a family with a young toddler and a fur baby. The bed was comfortable and the bedding was clean, the bathroom is also very tidy and much bigger than expected. The housekeeping staff was friendly and kind. That’s where the positives ended and the negatives started for us. The parkade was detached from the actual hotel and requires an outside walk. The furniture (couch and chaise lounge) were both kind of dirty, especially the couch. The cover of the couch and pillows had suspicious stains on them and it made it hard to feel comfortable sitting on them to be honest. It wasn’t a deal breaker, and I wish I could complain but the phone in the room was broken! How did I find out? Well, having the two most unpredictable guests in our group, I was hoping for a two hour extension on the check out time. The normal one is 11am, but our baby has been struggling with sleeping in foreign beds so I was hoping we could extend it to 1pm. The staff I spoke with during check in suggested the only way I could get a firm answer is if I call the front desk in the morning around 9am. To the surprise of no one, my baby had a rough night so he ended up falling for a nap at 9am, that’s when I realized the phone wasn’t working. I walked all the way to the lobby just to be greeted by a less than nice lady in the front desk who only gave me until noon. Reluctantly I agreed and checked out before that, although I would hesitate to call this hotel family friendly.

When you charge $400/night after taxes, there’s a certain level of expectations in the final product. Unfortunately I don’t believe River Rock met these expectations and I would have paid extra to stay at a Marriott product, which is Westin. Our room type was a one bedroom suite, while spacious was dated and in need of a refresh. The decor was stuck in early 2000s and it shows in the property itself: from the entrance to the hallways to the carpet. There’s a specific set of expectations set at that price point, whatever that may be to you, but without me explicitly stating it I bet it won’t meet yours. The room is clean and comfortable but you can get that for lesser prices. When it comes to expectations, there are specific things you look for in a $400/night room like USB ports for your modern devices. Might be not your expectation but it’s a given since we live in a smartphone world and lots of cheaper hotels do this regularly. The property location is convenient with the transit line within walking distance but the overall property presentation looks tired and if you paid this much per night, it would be disappointing. The staff overall was friendly and welcoming but unfortunately, housekeeping was unreachable nor was front desk at night. I also found it interesting that when I checked out, they didn’t ask me how the stay was. Hopefully that was an anomaly.

Property was very clean, very convenient. The only thing I didn’t like ,the west elevator only had one working. So be prepared for that.

The room was dirty. Appeared to have been very superficially cleaned. I was traveling alone and a worker followed me to the elevator. I saw him and walked away for 10 mins and when I came back he was still there waiting. I walked away again for 20 mins and then he had finally left

Make sure you read all the additional charges before booking. It saves the confusion at check out. The hall way carpets on the 9th floor are dirty and starting to bunch up because the carpets being worn. The shower in room 937 needs a mold/ mildew grout scrub with an appropriate brush. For the cost of the room this should never be an issue ( it should never be an issue ever) We stayed here for convenience but after spending all of away time from room down town we will make a different decision next time. Staff were warm and friendly throughout the stay. Beds were comfortable. Rooms were well kept. NOTE there should always be a plastic liner in the bathroom garbage cans. One never knows what gets tossed in there. We had a wonderful weekend away ...

Sky train access for concert. We got in late. Bathroom was not clean. Sink and mirror hair and toothpaste. Was too tired to complain and change room. Wiped down mirror and bathroom counter before using. Toilet paper is like tissue paper. For the price it should be a lot better. Rooms are looking worn. But great bed and bedding.

Great staff, easy check in-out. The rooms are nice, well kept. Great dining options although on the pricier side. The free parking was a great bonus. About 5 minute walk from the Richmond night market as well for a little something extra to do. Overall we enjoyed our stay :)
