After a 10-hour international flight, the last thing any exhausted traveler expects is to be gouged at check-in. We arrived at 1:30 p.m.—just 90 minutes before the standard 3:00 p.m. check-in time—and were told it would cost $60 plus tax to access our room early. To be blunt, this is an absurd and predatory practice. In Japan, we paid the equivalent of 800 yen per hour, which was fair and reasonable. Here, the hotel’s response was not about hospitality, it was about squeezing every last dollar out of guests. For a hotel that claims to offer premium service, this felt cold, transactional, and exploitative. Welcome back to Canada, where instead of a warm welcome, you’re met with a cash grab. Next time, I’ll be booking with a hotel that actually respects its travelers. Radisson Blu Vancouver Airport should be ashamed of this kind of practice.
