The hotel does not even have a real sign on York street but only a banner. Rooms are extremely small, some face an interior courtyard so small that one feels below street level. The a/c heat unit requires earplugs to get any sleep and even with those it’s like sleeping on a plane. The lights except those by the bed are fluorescent lights Other than breakfast (which I did not dare to try) the hotel has no services whatsoever (there is a fridge in the room) and the desk is about 20 cm 6 inches wide and sits under the TV so it is likely one will hit the TV. Bathroom is actually bigger than one would expect and there are ropes. Not a 4 star for sure and some rooms are not usable by two people (also due to minimal closet space)

Good Good Good. The room features simple, functional, custom-made furniture, is clean, and offers 100% cotton bed sheets and a comfortable mattress. Please note the A/C is a bit noisy. The beautiful electric kettle has a very short cable. We manage to use it in one of the side tables. Providing a complimentary bottle of spring water in the room specifically for making coffee and tea would be a welcome and thoughtful addition. Mini-fridges in hotels are often enclosed in cabinets for appearances, but there are always openings at the rear to allow heated air to escape. In this case, at The Union Hotel, I noticed that the mini-fridge is totally enclosed in a side table with not enough air circulation. This could damage not only the furniture but also the fridge and potentially affect the air quality. This issue could be resolved with a small window opening at the top of the wooden back panel.

The room was clean and beautifully renovated. Staff was exceptional. Helpful. Friendly. I arrived with my dog and his kennel and luggage and the staff helped me bring everything in. They accommodated me wanting to avoid the crowd noise from baseball by putting me in an interior room. The cafe on the main floor has delicious coffee and friendly staff. Everything about my stay was perfect. Loved the steps to be eco-friendly, too.
