Amazing property, beach was amazing. Pool super nice. Walk to xcaret is a must. Bad sides were there is hardly any poolside service or poolside food. Rooms smaller and out of date but still good enough. Favorite resort we’ve been too.

Spent the first two nights there water so hot you couldn’t use it or no water. Ended up having to use the bathroom by the pool or having to go all the way to the lobby. After the second day they moved us to a new room first one had an ocean view second one had a Garden view. Everyone was really sorry for the inconvenience but no one offered in compensation for the issues. More concerned about selling timeshares then worried about the problems we had.

Three days in a row I came home from the beach to go to dinner and there was no towels. It took me an hour calling multiple times to the front desk to get services and the laundry to get hung up on or say, they'll be there in five minutes nothing. I stayed at this resort three other times and had no issues. I'm not sure if they give the Expedia people the crappy rooms or not never again.

This place was amazing!! From the staff, to the property, to the pools, all of it was fantastic. The grounds alone with the animals, nature trails and plants was beautiful. We have stayed at many, many all inclusives throughout Mexico and the Caribbean and this is the first one we would return to in a heartbeat. The food was mediocre but it was no better and no worse than any other all inclusive we’ve stayed at. The selection was great. You certainly won’t starve and the ambience of the beachfront buffet can’t be beat. We had so much fun here and will definitely be back.

The wild life made our stay an awesome experience. The deer and the 4' orange iguana hanging out by the pool was awesome. (No touching though, they are still wild life) It was like living in the jungle. The buffet (especially for being a buffet) really exceeded my expectations. The options were vast and there was something different each day. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. Fransisco in the Itallian restaurant was hands down the best and made my birthday dinner a very enjoyable experience. The italian food was the best that we had out of the restaurants you have to make reservations for.. the food at la Hacienda was good, but not quite the spicy mexican ypu mught trafitionally expect, but still a great experience. Everything was always very clean and well maintained. The ladies that took care of our room were very kind and did a great job. There honestly isnt anything bad that i can say about our experience. We came as a couple this trip, but would def consider bringing the kids next trip. We always felt safe inside the resort.

Amazing stay for me and BF. We’re 30, and this resort seemed great for younger, older, kids, literally anyone. Excellent food (buffets were all good, oriental restaurant was great, MX restaurant was not good), the lagoon is so fun, there’s tons of pools, plenty of chairs and shade, workers all friendly, xcaret park not even a 5 min walk away. My fave part was ALL the animals. My two pieces of advice for anyone visiting: buy/bring a snorkel and water shoes! It was my first time snorkeling and WOW it was so cool; the area is rocky tho and has sea urchins so shoes are helpful if you want to go in the snorkel area right outside the resort. 2nd advice: bring small bills to tip the staff; these ppl work so hard and do such an excellent job, and I didn’t see hardly anyone else leaving tips after meals or to the bartenders, etc. don’t take advantage of such excellent service by not showing appreciation, that adds hardly any extra cost to your trip, but will make a big difference to the staff members who are on the receiving end. For anyone trying to plan how long/what to do/transport: we stayed 5 nights, took ADO bus from airport to Playa ($12ish each) and then cab to resort (about $40, but you can get cheaper if you walk away from the bus stop). We spent one day at the park (get the full package w meal and special activity - food was SO GOOD, and stingray Seatrek and night show were amazing). All other days we spent at pools and lagoon, never got bored or ran out of entertainment.

Nice property- high pressure sales for timeshare

Beautiful property but be prepared for a high pressure sales pitch to join their timeshare and to be treated poorly for not booking directly. Every time we left our building the "concierge" tried to sign us up for the breakfast sales pitch and guilted us for not doing it. Room was clean but had maintenance issues that needed attention. Food was bland at the buffets. We had reservations 1 night at the Mexican restaurant which was good, but had to make our reservation in the lobby as our concierge at our building couldn't do it. Overall, the property is beautiful with nice pools, grounds, and easy access to Xcaret. We enjoyed our stay but won't return.

We arrived late last Thursday night, Feb 27th, 11pm. The woman at the front desk who checked us in was very rude, and gave us no direction as to where our room was. No welcome at all. We didn't have hot water in our room the entire time we stayed at the resort. We politely asked several times to have it corrected. Luke warm at the best of times. Our maid service was terrible. Had missing towels, empty fridge, and no coffee either on alternating days. Put a huge damper on our trip. Went to the seafood restaurant for dinner, 8 pm, on Tuesday, and our waiter greeted us by calling my husband a gringo. Which translates to dirty tourist. Being insulated and discriminated against left a very sour taste in our mouths. We are very easy to please type people and felt no need to tip because of the lack of respect and service. We do not recommend the Occidental!! Definitely not a 5 Star resort. 1 star only because it's the lowest you can give. Sad when you're happy that your time is up and you get to go home.

Not clean - do not stay

We stayed for 12 hours but booked a 4 night stay. The room was not clean and we got two full size beds when we said it was our honeymoon. We went to a new resort and had a good remainder of our honeymoon.

The staff claim the restaurants to be very vegan friendly, and tell you just to tell your server when you arrive and they put a note in your booking as well. But they still serve you dishes with meat, eggs and cheese. They also claim to have lots of vegan options in the buffet, however only during some meals they have a vegan section and that section was severely lacking. Beans were often under cooked and hard, and there was a lack of flavor. We ended up eating very plain, bland food for the week we were there. The juice was also terribly sugary. And the servers often push alcohol onto you even if you say you’re not drinking. We also booked a king bed with a balcony but upon arriving were told it’s one or the other. The water in the showers was either cold or scolding hot and the rooms were rather underwhelming. On the beach there’s a small handful of swinging beds however they are so limited it’s almost impossible to get access to one unless you want to pay a lot extra and enter the private area. Overall we do not feel we got the value for the cost of this resort and will not be returning.

Great vacation spot for families! We loved the animals on the property, adult only area and the ala cart restaurants.
