Accommodation In Pambula

Surrounded by hills and farmland, Pambula has a chilled-out, mellow vibe. Sitting at the mouth of the Pambula River in Bega Valley Shire, it’s a town steeped in history. With its charming rural location, cafes and restaurants, national parks and close proximity to Pambula Beach, Pambula is ideal for a romantic or family trip away. Book your Pambula hotel with us and give yourself a break.

The traditional home of the Thaua Aboriginal people, Pambula was named after the Tharawal word for ‘twin waters’. It’s believed the Imlay brothers, who established cattle runs, were the first Europeans to settle in the area. Gold mining boomed from the first discovery in 1888 to the early 1900s, and today some of the town’s oldest buildings still stand, including The Retreat, The Court House and The Grange – all from the mid-1800s.

Wander the colonial buildings of Pambula’s town centre and you can find everything from quaint cafes to take-away pizza to seafood restaurants, not to mention art galleries and shops. Ready to hit the beach? Pambula Beach is a tiny town just a five-minute drive from Pambula, with six kilometres of clean white sand, and waves you can surf on a good day. Best of all, it isn’t full of tourists all the time, so you might just have the place to yourself.

Close to the beach is the northern end of Ben Boyd National Park, where you’ll find places to explore like the Pambula River Walking Track, which winds along the riverbank through bush to a lookout with beach views. Need more activities? Take some surfing lessons or go kayaking, tee off at the Pambula Merimbula Golf Club or take a day trip to the nearby town of Bega. There, you can taste a range of delicious cheese at the Bega Cheese Heritage Centre or check out a local art gallery or museum.

Only a three-hour drive from Canberra, Pambula is an ideal destination for locals of Australia’s capital. If a blissfully quiet beach trip or a relaxed getaway in a rural town sounds like your kind of holiday, Pambula may just be for you. Book your Pambula accommodation with us!
