Rest was hard

Clean & new, but traveling with an toddler room location was not great. A heads up the room was over a bar that had karaoke till almost eleven would have been good to know. We did not sleep very well.

Super noisy at night-Bar underneath our wasloud through the night, people outside the bar yelling at noisy through the night. Rooms were clean , but dated & stuffy. Had to through the lobby, across a street to get to elevator to the room. Was ok, but not worth the price.

The room had multiple issues when we checked in. I will not go into detail but when we mentioned it to staff the following morning as it was late when we cheked in. Cudos to the manger who made things right with compensation. This is the second visit to the hotel and it is a nice place with multiple dining options all within walking distance. We will return as this was a freak situation.

We liked that the hotel was near the wharf and close to a bunch of cute shops. What we didn't like is that there was a lot of noise within the hotel and outside and the room didn't get dark enough as there was only blinds.

Every member of the staff was friendly and attentive. A notch above what you see most places. Breakfast wait staff was excellent as was breakfast. We'll be back and highly recommend The Portola for anyone headed to Monterey for either business or pleasure.

If I have to mention one thing that deserves not even one star, it is the coffee maker in the room. The coffee Keur brand and the amount of water used for the machine, tasted like water. It Even with the given instruction how to use this machine , it took for ever. And was tasteless. For a room that charges $500 a night we expected some good coffee! Respectfully. The staff here was so friendly and kind. Many restaurants to walk to and coffee shops. Convenient parking for hotel guests. Will definitely stay here again!
