Arrowtown

Arrowtown still looks a lot like the quaint little gold mining town it once was and still attracts fortune seekers.

Some 150 years ago, gold miners flocked to the banks of the Arrow River near Queenstown to pan for gold. Time slowly rolled on, but their wooden huts remained, along with traces of gold. Grab a gold pan from the visitor centre near the river and give it a go. No luck? Explore the historic main street. Instead of picks, pans and shovels, the Arrowtown shops will be more likely to sell you art, crafts and fudge these days.
