Te Anau overlooks its namesake lake, the largest in the South Island. For as long as anyone can remember, this far-flung town has prepared adventurers for the wilderness adventures in Fiordland National Park. Travel lodges, an info centre, alpine trekking shops and supermarkets full of high-energy, lightweight foods are dotted around town.
