Shotover Jet

Fly through the narrow waterways of the Shotover River aboard a speeding jet boat at one of Queenstown’s most popular attractions.

The rapids of Shotover River twist and turn as they run for 47 miles (75 kilometers) from the Southern Alps. Since 1970 the river has attracted visitors from around the world for more than just its scenic beauty. The Shotover River is home to the Shotover Jet, one of the most popular jet boat experiences in New Zealand. Zip through the water at speeds of up to 53 miles (85 kilometers) per hour and hold on to your seat as your driver throws the boat into a 360-degree turn.

The Shotover Jet is the only jet boat operator licensed to use the iconic Shotover River, making it a truly unique experience. The river is known for its narrow, winding canyons, a feature that the Shotover Jet drivers use to enhance your jet boat experience. See how close the experienced drivers get you to the walls of the canyon as they skillfully maneuver down the river. Hold on tight to the safety rail to ensure you have peace of mind as you make your journey.

The Shotover Jet is known for its safety record, and as such they enforce some necessary rules. While children are welcome, they must be taller than 3.2 feet (1 meter). Bring some wet-weather gear, and leave your electronics in one of the lockers provided, as you are likely to get splashed during the trip. Leave your camera behind knowing you can purchase professional photographs of your trip from the Shotover Jet crew.

Watch your friends and family careen down the river from the viewing deck above. Relax with a coffee from Cavells, the on-site café, as the red boats go flying past.

The Shotover Jet is located on the Shotover River, approximately 4 miles (7 kilometers) from Queenstown. Shuttle buses run regularly from the river to Queenstown, and are complimentary with your ticket on the boat. Spectators are also welcome to use the shuttle for free if space is available. Parking is available at the river. A fee applies to ride the jet boats, and the center is open every day except Christmas, weather permitting
