Hotels In Union Square

San Francisco’s most-visited neighbourhood is like a whole city packed into 2.6 acres. There are shops, restaurants, nightclubs, art galleries, live events, a Christmas tree and ice skating rink in winter, and of course, hotels. Book your Union Square accommodation with us and you’ll have a whole holiday’s worth of things to do just a few steps from your hotel. Not to mention the rest of San Francisco to explore!

Union Square got its start in 1847 when the City of San Francisco commissioned surveyor Jasper O’Farrell to design its streets and parks. Named on the eve of the Civil War in support of the pro-union rallies, the Square became a popular district for homes and then businesses. After the 1906 earthquake, it was rebuilt and turned into San Fran’s number one shopping destination. In 1941, the world’s first underground parking garage was built under Union Square.

Things to do

There’s something going on every night of the week in Union Square. It’s the home of the Tony award winning American Conservatory Theatre, San Francisco’s largest theatre company. There are several other theatres here too, offering everything from improv to performance poetry to original musicals. If you’re keen for some nightlife, you can check out live blues music, party in a dance club while a DJ pumps tunes, or drop into a Prohibition-style speakeasy.

Union Square also features a wide range of art galleries with paintings, sculptures, photography and touring art shows.

You’ll even find salons, day spas and fitness clubs in Union Square, so feel free to treat yourself before a night out.

Shopping and dining

Union Square has a huge range of shopping choices: designer outfits, shoes, handbags and jewellery, with something to suit every price range. And if you don’t find what you’re looking for, check out Maiden Lane, a pedestrian walkway between Geary and Post Streets that’s simply bursting with the latest fashions.

On top of its cocktail bars and nightspots, Union Square has a slew of other sweet places to dine: Michelin-starred restaurants, Japanese, French and other worldwide cuisines, steakhouses, casual dining spots and quick and easy cafes.
