Rydges Sydney Central - Surry Hills Hotels

Rydges Sydney Central

"Nice hotel central to most things"
Very nice hotel, close to all things in city and next to train station so easy travel to anywhere in Sydney. Room was neat and comfortable. The only disappointing thing was room service which took 5 phone calls to get through, then once order was taken which was a plate of chips, cheese pizza and icecream it took 2hrs to be delivered. On delivery chips were overdone in old oil (in-eatable), pizza was cold and like cardboard (in-eatable) and the price was ridiculous. The positive thing was the front desk (assist Manager) was sensational and didn't charge us for the food we cdnt eat. The buffet breakfast was nice but we did notice they stopped bringing items out at 9.30am which was a bit ordinary. In general it's a nice Hotel but could do with some customer service revamping. Front of Hotel could have a concierge/bellboy style service to greet patrons...Front desk service however was outstanding.

"Nice basic hotel with an historic touch"
I was looking for a simple inexpensive hotel near Central. The Shakespeare was a nice old fashioned Australian hotel above a pub with a sense of history and nice old paintings. The hotel did not supply a towel or toiletries for the bathroom down the hall. Pleasant stay overall.

Location and presentation of room for the price was definitely worth its value. I was disappointed however that the staff didn't communicate very well with each other as I rang earlier in the week to hire a car space only to arrive that morning and being told the car space had gone and had to try last minute to find an alternative. Apart from the miscommunication, it was a good overall.

Good large clean rooms with a desk, shared bathroom, and a fan rather than air-conditioning, but with a sink, tea and coffee-making facilities. This is an old hotel but well-renovated, providing basic but comfortable accommodation close to transport. Suitable for a quick visit to Sydney.
