Springwood’s name came from brigadier Sam Langford’s 614-acre property. It was intended to be a satellite town on the South East Freeway. Although development began in 1968, the final part of the freeway wasn’t completed until 1985. These days, about 9000 people call Springwood home.

Things to do

Take a trip to the Gold Coast and check out the shopping, beaches, nightclubs and theme parks like Dreamworld and Wet and Wild. Have a great time in Surfers Paradise or Burleigh Heads. Or go in the other direction and see the sights of Brisbane like the South Bank Parklands, Mount Coot-Tha and the Botanic Gardens.

Of course, there’s plenty to do in Springwood too. If you like Swedish furniture then take a walk around the mega-sized IKEA, a five-minute drive away at Slacks Creek. It’s a king-sized store that you can get quite happily lost in for hours. Drop into a shopping mall like Centro Springwood, Chatswood Hills Shopping Centre or Arndale Shopping Centre. There are Thai, Chinese, Indian and many more restaurants throughout Springwood, as well as quiet corner cafes. Wander the tropical garden in Springwood Park, bike along the bike track or make use of the BBQ facilities.
