Most likely the first 5-star hotel in Shenzhen, Shangri-La has witnessed enormous changes in the neighbour over the past 30 years. But the hotel itself hasn’t changed much, still maintaining its standing as the 5-star hotel in the heart of the city.

Good solid choice walking distance to HK border w/HK MTR and one of several HSR stations in Shenzhen. Both the brand and the property a bit tired after so many decades. 30 years ago it felt special to walk into a Shang. Now not so much but still fine. There is a 7-11 and ~5 low cost pretty good restaurants 100 feet away.

This is an old hotel in an old district. There are renovated rooms (cleaner) on higher floors, but be aware the cheap ones are not. I originally booked the cheap room and it was a huge disappointment. The room was small and not clean. There was a pubic hair on the bath tub and the water did not drain correctly. I ended up paying more to upgrade my room. The “newly” renovated room was much cleaner. If you have stayed in another regular standard Shangri-La, don’t expect this one would be the same.

Very convenient if you are coming from Hong Kong. If you have the intention to travel to Guangzhou after your stay in Shenzhen this hotel would be perfect as it is very near to the railway station. The only downside is that the hotel is a little old.

Locked in during the Typhoon. Hotel is older but well maintained. Had water come into the room from the storm but minor. Overall a classy place. Junior staff could do with some training as they are too often looking at their phone screens rather than attending to customers. Again overall a very nice place to stay. Oh and location is PERFECT.
