Last resort

A glorified hostel. I would have preferred a hostel. The actual location is not super sketchy, but a bit hard to see from the street and not in a very exciting area. The inside is lackluster and older, with stained carpet and an overwhelming smell of air freshener and scented cleaning products. The room itself was decent enough though not attractive by any stretch of the imagination. The deadbolt did not work. I had a room right above Bush which was incredibly loud due to car noise, also people would stand outside the market next door until late and talk loudly. The bathrooms were ok. The showers on my floor had 2 rooms which had dysfunctional doors that would not close. I went to another floor to find a functioning shower door. Big safety issue. If you have literally no other option, this room would do in a pinch. I wish I had gone with a hostel. I would have been happy to share this info at checkout but was barely spoken to, much less asked about my experience. I’m sure they know—the issues i encountered do not seem to be one-offs and I’m very confused by the positive reviews.

they were super nice and friendly, super clean. You could ask for room service and leave a tip. The check out was at noon which was a plus for me and super close from everything to take transportation or walk

Great value convenient location

It's not the Ritz Carlton but it is clean, secure, good internet. Convenient location. They have great coffee. Great value for a single business person in town for a few days.

Traveling solo for a thing and it was perfect. You won’t get a better location at this price. Hardly heard anything from other guests. A little noisy outside but it’s a city. Wasn’t enthusiastic about community bathroom and showers but they were very clean, hot water, never waited once for either. I would stay here again.

This is my third time staying at The Urban Hotel San Francisco, and every visit feels like coming home. Its prime location—right at the entrance of Chinatown—combined with its incredible value for money makes it an ideal choice, especially for a traveler like me who is far from home. I’d like to give a special shoutout to Hans at the front desk (forgive me if I’ve misspelled his name!). He went above and beyond to assist me when an unexpected issue arose with my third-party booking. Even though the situation was beyond his control, he didn’t just stand by—he actively helped me communicate with the booking platform. While that didn’t lead to a resolution, his willingness to help reassured me so much that I decided to rebook directly through Expedia, even at the risk of a double booking. Thankfully, Expedia made the process smooth and efficient, and Hans quickly checked me in, ensuring I could get the rest I needed. It’s rare to find such genuine hospitality and dedication to guest satisfaction, and that’s exactly what keeps me coming back to this hotel. If you’re looking for a cozy, well-located, and budget-friendly stay in San Francisco, I highly recommend The Urban Hotel—and if you’re lucky, Hans will be there to welcome you with top-notch service! Perfect Stay for All Star Weekend

I knew the reviews were good, but the property still exceeded my expectations. The location was simply perfect, with a convenience store next door and a short walk to the Bart station. The shared bathroom was always clean and accessible. The staff was friendly and greeted me every time I came in. I was there for NBA All Star weekend, so it was the perfect distance from the Chase Center. I will definitely keep them on the top of my list when I'm in the San Fran area.
