Noise pollution

The rooms are nice and are cleaned every day. The heating is very very loud when it should reach the desired temperature. Sleeping is impossible, so always have to turn it off at night. This would be less good in winter. The fridge also whistles all the time.

The Clift, for many years, has been a very nice hotel in the Union Square area of San Francisco. It's pretty much as I remembered it from a stay maybe 25 years ago -- although updated probably a few times since. Although the neighborhood has a gritty urban appearance, my wife and I felt very safe and secure. The lobby, breakfast restaurant and spectacular Redwood bar are all very handsome and welcoming public spaces. The staff was both friendly and quite helpful. Our executive room with two queen beds was very clean and well maintained. Housekeeping was excellent. The overall value we received for what we paid couldn't be beat, especially in a city where prices are very high for lodging, housing and food. As to food, there are several pretty decent diners within a few blocks for breakfast and lunch -- although the restaurant in The Clift is every bit as good as any of those diners.

The hotel was great, very comfortable stay and the staff was very accommodating. The area is tricky and isn’t the hotel’s fault. It’s a direct line to Union Square which is great but if you go two blocks down, you will hit the shady area of Downtown San Francisco. You just have to be mindful of that.
