"Few glitches, but to be expected"
We had a brand new room in The Left Wing. The receptionist noted the open bar area below our room and suggested we use the metal shutter for noise control. After a few moments of thought, we asked to change rooms - there was only one available and that was also in The Left Wing, slightly away from the bar but above a small construction site (builders had been instructed by the hotel to be quiet until 10am and this was honoured). We found the fridge in our room didn't work and the next morning noted this to reception as we went out - Daniel, the manager, asked for any further feedback, which we gave and hope was constructive. Because we'd changed rooms and then had a non-functioning fridge, he was kind enough to take us next door to Ozone and shout us a coffee and croissant for our breakfast! The fridge was replaced while we were out (we knew because the door opened on a different side) and the new one worked perfectly. The bed and pillows were wonderfully comfortable, the best we've had in a hotel for a long time. We did think it odd that bedrooms would be put above a bar and what will become a pizza restaurant when both those are in an open courtyard surrounded by hard surfaces. However, we were told the bar has an 11pm closing limit because of the bedrooms above. The sliding metal shutter did seem effective at blocking any noise. For me, though, having the shutter closed was slightly claustrophobic and there was no source of fresh air in the room.

We stayed three nights for business. The room offered everything we needed (including both a desk and small sitting area). The King bed was large and very comfortable and the bathrooms offered a modern feel and were well looked after. We ate in the hotel restaurant after a busy day, and the food was very good and service excellent.

"Central, convenient, new & full of character"
On the main high street of New Plymouth, walk to shops, pubs, restaurants and cinema. Brand new interior and qwerky design make this the perfect antidote to 'bland corporate chain hotel' experience. Rooms & common areas all brand new decor. Free laundry room for longer term stays & working stays. On negative side, rooms a bit small, 32" TV (with full SKY though), fine for a couple, but not spacious. Parking round the corner, about 40m walk.

    Accommodation In New Plymouth

Our New Plymouth accommodation is perfectly positioned for you to enjoy all the area has to offer. The dramatic, snow-topped volcanic cone of Mount Taranaki is a spiritual and physical force in this region. The mountain is the source of over 50 rivers and streams, the home of many botanically unique plants, and the subject of many stories and legends. On sighting the mountain in 1642, explorer Abel Tasman said it was "the noblest hill I’ve ever seen".

Our New Plymouth hotels are a perfect base for exploring the breathtaking beauty of the area. In the Maori language, Taranaki means 'Gliding Peak', a name that ties to the legend of how the mountain came to its location. As the story goes, Taranaki once lived with the North Island’s other great volcanoes (Tongariro, Ruapehu and Ngauruhoe) but was banished for falling in love with Tongariro’s wife, a smaller volcano called Pihanga.

The mountain and the Tasman Sea, provide a natural playground for travellers who enjoy outdoor adventures. The region is also known for its creativity and ingenuity - characteristics that materialise as beautiful gardens, fascinating museums and highly acclaimed art collections.

If you’re heading to New Plymouth to watch concert, or attending a festival or expo, we have a number of hotels near Yarrow Stadium, that will save you precious time and money getting to the venue.

Stay in our New Plymouth accommodation and explore the areas attractions, including:

    Mount Taranaki

Taranaki’s famous 2518 metre dormant volcano sits at the centre of beautiful Egmont National Park. The park offers outstanding hiking, climbing, skiing and photography opportunities.

    The surf highway

The close proximity of the mountain to the sea is one of Taranaki’s special features. It takes only 30 minutes to drive from mountain plateau to beach – making it possible to ski and surf in the same day.

    Puke Ariki

An interactive library, museum and visitor centre, Puke Ariki displays more than 6000 significant Maori taonga (treasures). The centre looks out to Len Lye’s Wind Wand sculpture on the coastal walkway.
