Basic and over-priced
I have been using the online booking platform ‘Stayz’ for many years. All other past stays at have delivered well, as advertised, and met my pre-visit expectations. This property at Kurunjang (Melton) did not reach the same benchmark.
Melton is not a place I would visit for a holiday break. My only reason for booking this house was to attend an annual three-day convention nearby. This property was conveniently located to the convention venue.
This house delivered the basics well enough – comfortable beds, privacy, a degree of space. The kitchen was kitted out minimally – a full set of crockery, cutlery, and basic saucepans, but missing larger mixing bowls, colander or strainer, baking trays or oven-safe cookware, and only the top (not bottom) element of the oven worked. The fridge was half-sized. Kitchen cupboard space was limited.
The bedding was inadequate and of basic quality, we got very cold at night. The house’s heating was over-exuberant in the bedrooms, but when left off, the house quickly became too chilly. There were no full-length mirrors, and the hand basins in the bathroom and ensuite had no plugs, risking losses down the drain.
The tariff for this house amounted to $200+ each per night – we were a party of three older singles. By comparison, a year ago I stayed at a different holiday rental house in the area, and the rate was approx $120 each per night, and delivered better provisions and decor. Next year I'll book earlier, at a better rate.
