The area around Marcoola – including nearby Twin Waters, Pacific Paradise and Mudjimba – was settled the late 1800s when it was mainly used for timber, grazing and farming. It wasn’t until the 1960s that it really began to take off as a residential area. Since then, this slice of the Sunshine Coast has only grown more and more popular! It’s not immediately visible to the eye, but once you see it you’ll never forget it! Marcoola got its name for its location between Maroochydore and Coolum.
The beach is the obvious attraction in Marcoola, which is just north of Maroochy River. Marcoola Beach has many uncrowded areas to relax on and stroll along at the end of a, well, not-so-long day when you’re here on holidays. There’s an ocean full of water activities, from sea kayaking to surfing, scuba diving and swimming, on your doorstep. Barbeques and picnic areas line the grassy parkland, perfect for cooking a snag for lunch or just a pretty spot to dig into those fish and chips. The shady trees and a children’s playground will keep everyone happy.
Other major attractions to tick off your list include the Marcoola section of the Mount Coolum National Park, and the nearby Maroochy River Conservation Park and Mudjimba Island. All around you there’s a plethora of fun, relaxing and entertaining attractions across the Sunshine Coast and in the hinterlands. It’s up to you to choose your adventure. Explore the gourmet hillside towns of Maleny and Montville, get up close to Australian wildlife at Australia Zoo, or indulge in the many bustling café and restaurant scenes lining the water’s edge. If it’s super-duper adventure you’re after, jump in a plane for a joyride of acrobatic loops – or jump out for an adrenalin rush before the parachute opens!
Just 10 minutes from the Sunshine Coast Airport, Marcoola is in a prime location to arrive by plane. To drive here, it’s just an hour and a half north of Brisbane!
